We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Risha Allen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Risha below.
Risha, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
As young adults when asked, “what do you want to do for a career”, we almost always have at 3 choices. What do we do with those? We start with our most passionate field and launch our lives in that direction. If that doesn’t work, we try something else.
My optimism comes from knowing there is always another option. I’ve applied this in my career choice by first dreaming then doing. A lot of practice in anything in life does not come easy (or at all), so me being optimistic has allowed me to overcome negativity that may follow.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a seasoned multifaced artist with focus on the nail care industry. I currently own a unique full-service nail salon. My goal is to offer a space designated for creativity and connections. In addition to a list of services from basic manicures to freestyle art, I utilize my salon space to make connections with my community. This looks like special events, small business support, and maintain client/technician relationships.
My next goal is to expand my brand to offer more like education for upcoming beauty entrepreneurs and community events.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Patience, Consistency, Learning.
I feel these three areas are most important to me because without them there is no room for growth. If you’re not patient with yourself, consistent with your tasks, and willing to learn new curves, then your future journey will seem to have more downs than ups.
As I’m still working on patience, I can advise after 8 years of being an independent worker and running a business for 3 years, patience is what got me here.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
50th Law of Power and The Magic. These two books have given me more than a few valuable nuggets.
One being, to really achieve a goal you must believe in the “magic”. Your own power to make these goals achievable.
The second being, it’s one thing to just dream of what your final goal is, it’s another to actually put in the foot work to get there.
