Meet Kee Sharrieff

We were lucky to catch up with Kee Sharrieff recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kee, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?

My self-care journey began after high school when I started my spiritual practice. I realized there were parts of myself I needed to nurture and aspects I had yet to discover. This journey led me to care for my mind through study, my body through a plant-based diet and exercise, and my spirit through meditation and journaling.

Initially, this involved a period of intentional isolation, which laid the foundation for my ongoing self-care and self-love practices. These habits have been crucial in helping me ‘show up’ effectively in both my personal and professional life.

A key aspect of my self-care is setting and maintaining boundaries. This practice has been essential in preserving my energy and ensuring I can give my best to my work and relationships.

As a luxury travel advisor, my lifestyle has evolved, requiring me to adapt my self-care routines. I now prioritize finding moments of stillness amidst my travels, often choosing destinations that allow for this. While my diet has adjusted to my on-the-go lifestyle, I ensure access to healthy foods and products.

Skincare has become a cherished part of my routine – it’s not just about beauty, but a moment to connect with myself. I treat self-care like I would care for a loved one, planning special ‘dates’ with myself and showing up with the same level of attention and love.

I’ve learned to be my own best friend, partner, and family. This means showing myself grace, giving pep talks, offering comfort in tough times, and even delivering hard truths when needed. It’s about cultivating a relationship with myself that’s nurturing and authentic.

One constant in my self-care practice is my connection with nature. It remains my go-to for regulating emotions, reflecting, simply being, and fostering creativity.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

As a Luxury Travel Advisor, I help Black women reclaim their right to luxury by planning and booking bespoke travel experiences. My mission goes beyond crafting seamless itineraries—it’s about empowering Black women to explore the world with confidence and joy, knowing they belong everywhere they go.

With over a decade of experience in the travel, outdoors, and camping industry, I’ve dedicated my career to changing the narrative that luxury is beyond our reach. Whether it’s the tranquility of nature or the vibrant pulse of city life, I curate experiences that resonate with each client’s individual spirit.

What sets my approach apart is my commitment to authenticity, both in travel planning and in my online presence. I’m not just a travel advisor; I’m a storyteller and a creative experimenting with social media. I’ve recently taken a different approach to my online presence, focusing on sharing experiences and art rather than solely promoting my business.

I believe in the power of being genuine and embracing all aspects of oneself. I post content that reflects my multifaceted personality—from luxury travel insights to moments of simply existing in nature. I’m reclaiming the joy in social media, moving away from the pressure of aesthetics and algorithms.

My background in film studies influences how I view and share experiences. I see each trip, each moment, as a story waiting to be told. This perspective allows me to create unique, immersive experiences for my clients and share authentic glimpses of my own journey.

I’m excited about my recent creation, a guide called “Secrets to Sustainable Luxury Travel Revealed.” It’s available to those who sign up for my email list on my Instagram page, offering insights into how to enjoy luxurious travel experiences while being mindful of our impact on the environment.

Currently, I’m also passionate about my ‘Black Girl Day Off’ initiative, encouraging Black women to prioritize mental health and embrace moments of peace and self-care. It’s about recognizing that our value isn’t just in what we do, but in who we are.

Looking ahead, I’m focusing on expanding my reach to help more Black women experience luxury travel. I’m also developing content that bridges the gap between luxury experiences and authentic, grounded moments in nature—showcasing that true luxury can be found in various forms of self-care and exploration.

Through my work and my personal journey, I aim to inspire Black women to embrace all aspects of luxury—from high-end travel experiences to the simple luxury of existing peacefully in nature. It’s about reclaiming our right to rest, explore, and indulge in the world’s beauty, on our own terms.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Reflecting on my journey, three qualities stand out as crucial to my success:

1. Social Emotional Skills: My experience at a Wolf Sanctuary, which doubled as a youth empowerment program, taught me the importance of these skills. Just as wolves naturally use these abilities for socialization, we humans need them to navigate our complex social world. In business, especially in luxury travel, understanding and managing emotions—both yours and your clients’—is key to creating exceptional experiences.

2. Adaptability: Life, like nature, is full of unexpected changes. My ability to adapt to life’s curveballs has been invaluable. Nature constantly reminds us of the power of adaptation—how various life forms evolve to thrive in changing environments. In the travel industry, where situations can change rapidly, being flexible and quick to adjust is essential.

3. Curiosity and Continuous Learning: As the saying goes, ‘Curiosity might have killed the cat, but it saved the wolf.’ My background in environmental education taught me the value of experiential learning and applying knowledge practically. It’s not just about reading or listening—it’s about doing. This approach has been crucial in my business, allowing me to constantly innovate and improve the experiences I offer my clients.

My advice for those early in their journey is to embrace these qualities:

Develop your social emotional skills by practicing empathy and active listening. When listening try to identify the need rather than delivery or tone. These skills will serve you well in any field, especially in service-oriented industries.

Cultivate adaptability by stepping out of your comfort zone regularly. Embrace change as an opportunity for growth rather than a setback.

Never stop being curious. Ask questions, try new things, and don’t be afraid to fail. Remember, you’ll never truly know how to succeed at something until you’ve experienced failure. When you’re afraid or unsure, that’s exactly when you should take action—it’s the best way to learn and grow.

In essence, do it even when you’re afraid and unsure. That’s how you’ll gain the most valuable knowledge and experience. These qualities have been fundamental in my journey from environmental education to luxury travel advising, and I believe they’re universally applicable, regardless of your chosen path.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

You know who I love working with? It’s the Black woman who’s ready to step into her power and embrace the luxury she deserves. She’s that go-getter in her 30s, 40s, or 50s who’s been crushing it in her career – maybe she’s a CEO, a creative powerhouse, or a thought leader making waves in her industry.

She is the Black woman who has worked hard to get where she is, and now she’s ready to enjoy the fruits of her labor. She’s not just looking for a vacation; she’s seeking experiences that feed her soul and expand her horizons. Whether it’s a VIP music tour experience inspired by Beyoncé’s Renaissance in Paris (complete with front-row seats and backstage access), a Space Center tour celebrating hidden figures in Black history, an immersive African adventure channeling the spirit of Wakanda, or a beauty-focused retreat in Barbados inspired by Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty (think exclusive spa treatments and personalized beauty workshops), she wants travel that’s both luxurious and meaningful.

My ideal client is that woman who’s always been curious about the world but maybe hasn’t always felt like luxury travel spaces were for her. She’s the one who’s scrolling through Lori Harvey’s Instagram, thinking, ‘I want that for myself.’ And guess what? I’m here to tell her, ‘Sis, you absolutely can have that!’

She cares about making an impact too. She wants to know that her travel choices are supporting local communities and respecting the environment. She’s looking for luxury with a conscience.

Most importantly, she’s ready to give herself permission to indulge. She understands that taking time for herself isn’t selfish – it’s necessary. She knows she deserves to be pampered, to explore, to have those ‘pinch me’ moments.

So if you’re that woman who’s been dreaming of luxury travel but hesitating to take the plunge, or if you’re already living that high-end lifestyle and looking for someone who really gets you to curate your next adventure – I’m your girl. Let’s create some unforgettable experiences together and show the world what it looks like when Black women fully embrace luxury travel.
