Meet Jordana Monteiro

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jordana Monteiro a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jordana , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I inherited my resilience from my mother. Both of her parents passed away when she was young, and she would always remind us, “Don’t wait for others to make things happen—go out and do it yourself.” She ensured my sister and I learned practical skills like cooking, cleaning, and solving problems, things kids our age typically didn’t know how to do. At the time, she taught us with the mindset that if anything happened to her, we would know how to take care of ourselves. I’ve carried that mindset into my career, focusing on finding solutions to challenges rather than dwelling on them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a licensed esthetician and PMU artist, and my business, Beauty Room by: JBrows, specializes in body waxing and brow services, though we also offer a range of other beauty treatments. What I love most is helping women feel confident and beautiful. Currently, I’m focused on expanding my team. After working solo in a studio for three years, we’ve moved into a larger space, and I’m passionate about building a team of women who not only take pride in their work but also add value to my life. I truly believe that the people you surround yourself with shape you, and having a strong, supportive team is essential to me.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three skills that have had the greatest impact on my journey are: being open to constructive criticism, staying adaptable to change, and putting myself in others’ shoes to understand their perspectives. I can be quite stubborn and often believe my way is the best way. However, I’ve faced challenges along the way that could have been avoided if I had been more open-minded. The advice I would give to someone early in their journey is to approach every struggle as an opportunity to shift your perspective and find a positive outcome.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

This is a tough question to answer, but I believe the women in my life—friends, family, and peers—have been instrumental in shaping the skills, qualities, and knowledge that have contributed to my success. The people around us always bring some light into our lives, and I try to take inspiration from everyone I admire and apply it to both myself and my business.
