We were lucky to catch up with Betty Encinales recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Betty, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I developed confidence and self-esteem by consistently practicing and facing the things I don’t want to do every day. It’s only by stepping outside your comfort zone that you truly build confidence. Self-esteem is an ongoing journey; you have to keep loving who you are and where you are in life. Be kind to yourself while continuously striving to improve. Progress comes from practicing, working, and evolving little by little. The key is putting in the effort every day.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As the Global Corporate Talent Acquisition Partner for Newsweek, I have the privilege of placing top-tier talent into specialist roles within the Media/News sector. I particularly enjoy building global teams and playing a key role in shaping this renowned brand, working across a variety of areas including science, technology, politics, and more.
With over a decade of experience, my team and I have developed strong relationships with industry-leading experts and organizations, ensuring they meet critical business needs and deliver on priority projects. I’ve had the pleasure of partnering with prestigious brands such as Goldman Sachs, HSBC, NatWest, Lloyds, Santander, and other major financial institutions. This has provided me with invaluable insights and a wealth of experience that I now bring to the organizations I collaborate with.
In addition to my professional work, I am a passionate advocate for women, underrepresented groups, and raising awareness on important topics such as Dyslexia and Diversity & Inclusive growth. I actively seek opportunities to champion these causes in all areas of my life.
Outside of work, my love for endurance sports has taken me on incredible adventures. Whether it’s running marathons, competing in triathlons, or climbing mountains like Kilimanjaro, I thrive on challenges that push my limits and take me across the globe.
With an open “can-do” mindset, I am constantly driven by my curiosity to learn more about the world, its cultures, and the diverse stories of the people in it. My multiple passions fuel my desire to keep evolving both personally and professionally.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities that have had the most significant impact on my journey are positivity, resilience, and discipline.
Positivity is essential because, as an entrepreneur and recruiter, you face many closed doors. You must become your own biggest cheerleader to keep moving forward. Resilience helps you to fall forward when things aren’t clear, allowing you to adapt and push through challenges. Finally, discipline is crucial because no matter what happens, showing up every day for your dreams and projects is the consistent effort that drives success.
My biggest piece of advice is to remember that anything you dream of or work towards requires effort and is a process. Learn to be comfortable with the journey, and stay positive, as this is the only way to remain motivated and eventually see results. Some things may not be immediately visible, but they are happening beneath the surface, so keep showing up. Embrace your mistakes, as they are valuable lessons that will guide you forward, helping you avoid past missteps and keep you moving in the right direction.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
One of the most impactful lessons I’ve learned I learnt from my parents is the importance of humility. They taught me that no matter how many opportunities you have, how prestigious your job is, or what your social status may be, it never makes you better than anyone else. Life can change in many unexpected ways, and when you remain humble and kind, people will always be willing to open doors for you. For me, this lesson is a priceless treasure — a reminder to always keep my feet on the ground and stay connected to the values that truly matter.
