Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to JD Earby. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
JD, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys, so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges, and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Constantly being around other creative people definitely helps a lot. It’s like iron sharpening iron. We’re continuously pushing and challenging each other to be the best version of ourselves.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I do quite a lot within the multimedia & entertainment industry. I’m a visual artist, event coordinator, graphic designer, set designer, and I also study film and photography. The list goes on, but the best way to sum it all up is that I’m a creative director and founder of Earby Studios.
It’s always an exciting challenge for me to create and push myself to do more. To be able to create masterpieces beyond the canvas is a magical and wonderful feeling for me. My goal is to have others appreciate my work and see me as much more than just an artist but a creator of sorts.
The next event for Earby Studios is Nature’s Beauty fashion week in October. It’s definitely something to see. Our fashion week doesn’t just focus on the clothing and designers but all beautiful parts of life and nature. That’s why we celebrate it in the most creative ways possible. We have a jungle-themed art exhibit, swimwear and floral garden fashion shows, red carpet interviews, and live performances.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment, and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
One thing for sure I will say is to study. Studying your craft before you just go headfirst into it will save you some time and answer a lot of unanswered questions. Another one I would mention is to be patient. It’s good to think big, have big dreams and goals. Yet without being patient, you’re going to make a lot of mistakes that could’ve been avoided if you took your time to build. Lastly, networking and connections can be one of the best skills you can have. Like they said, a closed mouth doesn’t get fed.
So, I encourage others to go out and learn, ask questions, experience, and don’t be afraid to fail for it’s a part of the process.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect, so before we go, we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collaborate with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Of course, I’m always looking to collaborate with other talented creatives and business leaders. Building a strong networking circle of other event planners, curators, fashion brands, visual and music artists is something I’m definitely open to. So, if there’s anyone looking to collaborate with me and/or Earby Studios, they can reach me at [email protected].
