Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chantel Ford. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chantel, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
As a busy mom of five and a full-time healthcare worker life around me itself always speaks creativity to my soul. I love art and fashion and everything that comes with being crafty. Art is what you make it. No matter how much a person may criticize their own work, to me every master piece big or small is beautiful, especially when its handmade. I fell in love with sewing at the age of 15, fashion has been my thing since the lisa frank days. Color and fabric is my way of expressing my creativity in each and every handmade bag I sew. Some of my bags are one of a kind, especially my Jazzy Denim Collection inspired by my beautiful, loving mother Jazzy Rene who passed away earlier this year. She was such a huge supporter of my business and a very stylish, Jazzy woman at that. Since her passing my sewing machine has been in turbo mode. Its definitely been an amazing outlet for me to continue my sewing journey and letting my creativity show in my beautiful handmade tote bags. I will forever keep my creativity alive by simply thinking of the woman who made me who I am today, my mother, Jazzy Rene.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am just one creative ladii making bags, while staying in my bag to keep a bag. I love sewing and every time I am done sewing a bag I am so happy and proud of myself when I look around my shop and realize how much inventory that I have created with my own hands. I never thought I would be at this point in my life just being excited to sew the next bag….lol. I always try to come up with new designs for my potential customers by really thinking outside the box and at the same time keeping my bags very stylish. My bags speaks boldness and creativity. Most people think that my tote bags are wholesale resell, which I think is very funny, I don’t know if I should take it as a compliment or insult….lol. But I am proud of my handmade bags. Each bag is sewn with love and perfection. I take my time and double check every detail of my bags once I finish sewing. I take much pride in my work and I really enjoy what I do.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Consistency, Consistency, Consistency is Key !! The more you practice it will definitely pay off in the long run. Always stay focus on your vision only. Take time to research and read up on things of your interest. You never have it all together in the beginning. Its a learning process for us all. Never give up on dreams and always do you for you. There is nothing wrong with falling behind or error, we all make mistakes, Its all about how we correct them and move forward on your journey.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My handmade bags always catches the eyes of those who love creative custom work. When people love something, no matter if its a certain pattern, character, team, logo or color, people are going to buy what they love. As long as you are giving people what they love the return is even better. I always do a little happy dance when someone shows interest in purchasing one of my handmade bags, I light up with joy when someone actually place an order and receive their order through mail, and send me pictures of them wearing my bags just really makes my day. I truly appreciate my customers reviews as well. Imagine Me Sew is making a name for itself, I really LOVE MY SEWING BUSINESS!!!
