We were lucky to catch up with Kane Bailey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kane , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I think everyone struggles with imposter syndrome in their day to lives. We get so focused on trying to fit in and keep up with everyone, we can forget to actually be ourselves. Sometimes when filming videos I have to remind myself to turn off this fake “entertaining YouTube voice”, and start talking like Kane Bailey instead of Mr Beast.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Kane Bailey, and I am a youtuber, actor, artist, and now business owner from Toronto, Canada. I just recently recently released my new hair care line, Curl Dreams. I continue to make a wide variety of content daily, while also hitting the studio at late nights, and submitting auditions early mornings.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
– Understanding every industry I stepped my foot in. I knew the music industry was a shade place when i started rapping, I knew not to trust everyone who says they have your back or something to offer, and much more.
– Understanding that having a job like being a content creator, there are going to decent months, great months, and regular months. I can never get to caught up in the highs or the lows. I just need to focus on pushing out quality content, and evolving with the industry and trends.
– I think something I try to work on everyday is appreciating the small steps. I like to think back to when I was a kid dreaming of the life I am living now, in order to feel more accomplished. Its hard to enjoy the accomplishments when your always reaching for more.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents ever did for me was allowing me to take the risks I have took. It is not regular for an 16 year old to tell there parents they are going to move across the country and live in LA when they are older, and then actually do it. I drove down by myself on a 2 day drive, that is a parents worst nightmare. Yet, reluctantly they allowed me because one, I wasn’t taking no for an answer, lol, and two, they knew that I always have a plan and follow through on them. It is nice when your family has your back and supports, I know a lot of people in my field don’t receive the same support from family.
