We were lucky to catch up with Just Fresh recently and have shared our conversation below.
Just , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Confidence and self-esteem don’t just pop up out of nowhere—they’re built over time. For me, a lot of that started with sports. In high school, I learned resilience real quick—whether it was bouncing back from a tough loss or pushing through an injury, you just had to keep going. Sports drilled into me that discipline is key: you can’t just show up and hope for the best; you’ve gotta put in the work. That’s where my confidence grew.
Now, when it comes to self-esteem, it’s about doing things even when you’re scared. Sometimes you’ve got to push yourself out of your comfort zone and just go for it. I’ve had big wins, and I’ve definitely taken some L’s, but both teach you something. Doing it scared proves to yourself that you can handle it, even if it feels uncomfortable. And having people around who keep it real—they’ll hype me up when I need it and call me out when I’m off track—helps a lot. That balance keeps my confidence steady and my self-esteem strong. So yeah, it’s all about showing up, learning, and eventually realizing—you’ve got this.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name’s Just Fresh. I’m a DJ and creative from Arizona. I also run this little thing called ‘Locals Only’ (itslocalsonly.com). It’s a brand; but more importantly it’s a way of tapping into the community and giving it something that feels real, like it belongs here. If I had to boil it all down, the most exciting part of what I do is the process itself. It’s not just about the end product, but the ride, the highs, the lows, and the moments where it all clicks. That’s why I’m here.
With my brand and art right now, I’m in this phase where I’m gathering all the pieces—notes, ideas, and lessons I’ve collected over time. It’s like I’m pulling together all these scattered thoughts, trying to make sense of them, and figuring out how to shape them into something real. My focus is on taking that next step, creating something that feels true to who I am now—and hopefully, others feel it too.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When I think about the top qualities and skills that’ve mattered on my journey, it starts with having a versatile toolbox. Just like our grandparents had hammers, screwdrivers, nails, and ladders, our modern toolkit includes tools like social media, AI, and the internet. The idea is to have a range of skills that you can adapt to different situations, much like having the right tool for the job.
Next up for me is communication. It’s not just about talking; it’s about mastering the soft skills and techniques that let you overcome hurdles like language barriers, cultural differences, and generational gaps. With so much interaction happening online and through screens these days, social media can sometimes damage our face-to-face communication skills. We’re hardwired for real-life connections, and those can’t be taught or bought. So, it’s crucial to refine those interpersonal skills to thrive in diverse settings. Effective communication can unlock opportunities and resolve conflicts in ways that digital interactions just can’t match.
Then there’s adaptability. Being flexible and ready to pivot is key, especially in a world that’s constantly shifting. It’s about preparing for the next wave, whether it’s a new trend, technology, or challenge, and adjusting your approach accordingly. If you’re always ready to adapt, you can handle whatever comes your way without getting stuck.
And here’s a piece of advice I live by: ‘Follow Your Goosebumps.’ If something sparks that excitement or intuition, even if it’s not your main focus, (go on that side-quest) it’s worth exploring. Those gut feelings often point you in the right direction. So, keep your toolbox versatile, master your communication skills by focusing on real-life connections, stay adaptable and prepare for the next wave, and trust those sparks of inspiration.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
I think when you’ve been good at something for a while, it’s easy to stick with the same old criteria you’ve used to measure success. It feels safe. But it’s also a little sneaky, like you’re holding yourself back without realizing it. So what I’m learning is that when you’re evolving, you can’t keep using the same filters. You’ve got to start looking for new signs, new evidence of who you’re becoming—not who you were. So, it’s about letting go of those old markers and figuring out what fits this next version of you.
