We were lucky to catch up with Eric Bergman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Eric, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I feel that it came from experience and persistance. The film industry has many faces, and you need to learn how to naviagate them on your journey. Its not an easy journey and you need to learn by making mistakes. I am a different person now from when I started due to my experience on different projects and the people that I encountered though the years. All of this has given me confidence and a lot of self-esteem. I will not work on certain projects if I am not treated with respect and that comes from self confidence. I feel I earned that with my experience and work accomplisments.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a post production supervisor / Co-Produer and what that means exactly is overseeing from the trenches with regard to putting a film or TV series together.
This would encompass editing, VFX, budget, scheduling, managing the crew, legal matters, titles, music, color timing and the studio. Communication is vital. I need to make sure that we are getting everything done per the schedule and the budget. What is rewarding to me is how it all comes together and eventually gets up on the screen or is streamed on your TV in your living room. I had something to do with that and its very rewarding. I enjoy what I do very much and what is so great about it is the technology is always advancing and every project is different.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1) Relationships,
Getting along with people and showing them you can get the job done will help you on your journey and also allow you to get more employment through these relationships. Do not burn any bridges. You never know when you may cross paths again.
2) Communication
Its very important to communicate all that is going on. People need to know and if you don’t let them know it will only come back and make your life a lot harder. I am very detailed that way and try and not let it slip through the cracks.
3) Taking Responsibility
If you make a mistake you need to take responsibility and tell that boss it won’t happen again. Don’t pass the buck. Don’t blame someone else or throw someone under the bus. Take responsibility and be honest. If you don’t it will come back and bite you in the ass. Trust Me!!!!

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I feel that has been myself. I had to overcome a lot of challenges in my life, I have lose and continue to work on myself to be a better person. I do this with my job, my family and all my relationships. I have used all of these tools with my career and have tried to emerge as a viable person in my industry with a good reputation.
