We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful K Lashawn Powell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with K LaShawn below.
K LaShawn, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Confidence and self-esteem didn’t come naturally to me; it was a journey filled with ups and downs, self-reflection, and intentional growth. I started by embracing my flaws and realizing that perfection is an illusion. Instead of focusing on what I wasn’t, I began to celebrate who I was and the unique qualities that set me apart.
One of the most important steps was changing my inner dialogue. I used to be my harshest critic, constantly doubting myself. I started practicing positive affirmations, setting small achievable goals, and celebrating every win, no matter how small. Surrounding myself with supportive people who believed in me and distancing myself from negativity also made a huge difference.
Taking care of myself, both physically and mentally, became my next priority. I invested in self-care, not just in the superficial sense, but by nurturing my mental health, staying active, and doing things that made me feel good. As I began to treat myself with kindness, my self-esteem grew naturally.
Another turning point was stepping out of my comfort zone. Whether it was trying something new, speaking up, or putting myself out there as an influencer, each experience built my confidence little by little. I learned that the fear of failure is often worse than failure itself, and every setback was an opportunity to learn and grow.
Ultimately, developing confidence and self-esteem is about accepting who you are, showing up as your authentic self, and realizing that you are enough. It’s an ongoing process, but each day, I make a conscious effort to choose confidence over fear and to love myself just as I am.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a lifestyle, fashion and beauty influencer, I have the incredible opportunity to connect with people by sharing my passion for beauty, fashion, self-care, and personal growth. What excites me the most about what I do is the ability to inspire others to feel confident, embrace their unique beauty, and express themselves authentically.
For me, it’s not just about recommending the latest outfit or skincare product, or the trendiest makeup look—it’s about empowering my audience to feel good in their own skin. I love being able to share my personal experiences, tips, and favorite products that have genuinely made a difference in my life. Whether it’s through a tutorial, a review, or a behind-the-scenes peek into my daily routine, I strive to create content that is honest, relatable, and uplifting.
What makes my brand special is my commitment to authenticity. I believe in being real with my audience—celebrating the wins, sharing the struggles, and being transparent about the journey. My goal is to create a safe space where my followers feel seen, heard, and inspired to pursue their own version of beauty and happiness.
Beyond the products and the content, my brand is about building a community. I love connecting with my followers, hearing their stories, and creating a dialogue that goes beyond the screen. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact that a simple post or story can have on someone’s day, and it motivates me to keep creating, sharing, and growing.
Ultimately, my mission is to inspire others to live beautifully and confidently, to embrace who they are, and to find joy in the little things—because beauty is not just about how you look, but how you live, love, and shine from within.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The important qualities that are most impactful are being authentic and relatable. People are drawn to real stories, genuine experiences, and honest recommendations. By sharing your true self—flaws, successes, and everything in between—you build trust and a deep connection with your audience. This authenticity makes YOU and your content more engaging and encourages followers to keep coming back because they feel seen and understood.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Both my mother and father both taught me to always trust myself. To believe in myself no matter what I chose to do in life and if (and when) I wanted to do something, go for it all the way! Do it to my best ability and keep going even after I gave it my all!
