Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexandra Zone. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alexandra, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from a blend of my experiences, creativity, and deep connection to nature and craftsmanship. As a business owner and artist, I’ve learned to value patience, adaptability, and self-reliance. Through my work with Alchemical Metalworks, I embrace challenges—whether it’s mastering a new metalsmithing technique or balancing my many roles. My passion for sustainability, ethical sourcing, and creating meaningful jewelry drives me forward, knowing each piece reflects my growth and strength. Nature walks, morning rituals, and my love for learning fuel my inner calm and determination.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m the founder and creative force behind Alchemical Metalworks, where I handcraft unique, meaningful jewelry inspired by magic and individuality. My work is all about merging the natural beauty of ethically sourced stones and metals with timeless designs that connect deeply with the wearer. What began in 2022 as a creative outlet has blossomed into a full-fledged business where every piece is crafted with intention, transforming jewelry from simple adornment into a talisman that tells a story.
What excites me most is the ability to create pieces that speak to individuality and empowerment. I love knowing that my jewelry can inspire someone, whether it’s a custom wedding set or a ring that symbolizes transformation and growth. Recently, I’ve been expanding my offerings to include more sand-casted and lost wax pieces that feature organic textures and natural imprints, such as hydrangea flowers. I also continue to explore new markets, like men’s handcrafted jewelry and gender-neutral/LGBTQIA+ pieces, while always maintaining a focus on sustainability and ethical sourcing.
I’m thrilled about upcoming product launches, including new collections of rings and pendants that highlight the earthy, rustic textures I love working with. I’m also refining my Shopify store to create a better shopping experience, planning to grow my social media presence, and excited about moving to Richmond, VA, which will bring new opportunities and inspiration for my work. Alchemical Metalworks is about more than just jewelry—it’s about connection, self-expression, and craftsmanship that’s meant to be cherished for generations.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, the most impactful qualities and skills have been creativity, resilience, and adaptability.
Creativity: As a metalsmith, creativity is at the core of everything I do. It allows me to think outside the box and bring unique, personal elements into each piece of jewelry I create. My advice to those starting out is to embrace experimentation—don’t be afraid to try new techniques or styles. Push your boundaries and let your passion guide you, even if it feels uncomfortable at first.
Resilience: There will be challenges, setbacks, and moments of doubt along the way. Resilience has been crucial in pushing through those tough times. Whether it’s a challenging design, a failed technique, or business hurdles, resilience helps me keep going. For those beginning their journey, my advice is to understand that failure is part of the process. Instead of seeing it as a setback, view it as an opportunity to learn and grow.
Adaptability: The ability to adapt has been essential, especially as I’ve expanded into working with new metals and techniques. The world of craftsmanship and business is ever-evolving, so being flexible and open to change has allowed me to grow. For those just starting, I suggest staying curious and always be willing to pivot or try new things when the moment calls for it. Being adaptable will help you stay relevant and continue learning.
Developing these skills comes from practice and persistence, so allow yourself room to grow, and don’t rush the process. Stay true to your vision, but be willing to evolve along the way.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, I’m always open to collaboration and love working with others who share similar values and passions. I’m particularly interested in partnering with creatives, artisans, and makers who are passionate about sustainability, ethical sourcing, and the art of handmade goods. Collaborations could include anything from co-designing unique pieces to working together on events or projects that promote creativity and craftsmanship.
I’m also excited to connect with other small business owners, particularly those in the handmade or jewelry industry, who want to explore cross-promotion or shared marketing efforts. If you’re someone who values individuality, craftsmanship, and connection, I’d love to hear from you.
