We were lucky to catch up with William Seifert recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi William, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I built up my work ethic over time, through my parents’ teachings and by trial and error. My parents taught me the values of accomplishing tasks, in a timely manner, and to not procrastinate on assignments. And while that’s very important, it’s only part of the solution. Creating a routine, I’d argue, ensures that you can accomplish your tasks in an organized and balanced way, and allows you the ability to complete more tasks within a selected timespan. And over the years, I started to develop my own routine to help me be as time efficient and effective as possible.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a filmmaker with a passion for cinematography and photography, and am searching for ways to boost myself into the film and entertainment industry. I have always been a visual person, and see the world in ways that may be different than most people. And while my biggest passions are cinematography and photography, respectively, I also have experience and enjoy editing, screenwriting, and hands-on production work. The act of being on-set is not only an exhilarating experience, but it provides me a sense of accomplishment when a group of creative minds come together to create a final product.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My biggest qualities that I feel are the most important would be determination, perseverance, and the ability to not fear and learn from failure. Everyone at some point is going to struggle at something or make a mistake. But what makes people successful, is their ability to pick themselves up and keep moving forward, while also learning to not make that same mistake again. In order to do that, you have to learn from failure, and have the determination and perseverance to keep going, despite those failures. That is why those are my top three most important qualities.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
What I do when I feel overwhelmed, especially in a work setting, is to take a deep breath, write all the things down that are causing me to feel overwhelmed, number them in ways that I would prioritize them, and then go through the list and complete each task. In other words, I would reduce the overall scope of things that are overwhelming me, and divide them to singular objectives to accomplish or get done. This strategy helps me often when I get into overwhelming situations.
