Meet Jq Cervantes

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jq Cervantes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with JQ below.

JQ, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

Finding my purpose didn’t happen overnight, and it wasn’t a clear pathway, signaling me with neon lights flashing “Here it is!”. Rather, it was a journey that I went on, taking turns and making shifts with each intuitive nudge from inside me. That intuition – whether you think it’s your Higher Self, God, Angels, or maybe just an energy – to me, is one of the most powerful tools I’ve got. You’d think that finding your purpose would be something located in the realm of what you do for work, however, for me, it all began when, what I thought was my whole life crashed.
Back in 2011, after experiencing one of the lowest points of my life, I knew I needed a fresh start and a goal big enough that it would PULL me out of the black hole I was living in. Out of a complete breakdown (I’m talking laying on the floor sobbing and unable to breathe), I got the intuitive hit to MOVE TO ITALY. It “gave me purpose” at the time to go and make that a reality. Now, I’ll save that whole story for another time, however, it was on that life-changing journey of soul searching in Italy that I discovered what I knew I was meant for, which at the time was “to inspire positive change” through empowerment coaching.
So, after changing my whole life and path… I ended up getting certified as a professional coach and building a business, all the while thinking, “I guess I’m an entrepreneur now”. I loved coaching people! It seemed that in every session, I was hearing people shift and light up and change their lives…all for the better. However, in the moments when I had that “entrepreneur hat” on, doing the backend side of the business, I was NOT in flow and it was NOT my jam. I would intuitively take breaks to do something that got me back into a space where I felt good and aligned, and that thing was painting.
I didn’t know it at the time, but my body was guiding me back to my “flow state”. Cut to a couple years later, when I was invited to attend a business course, which I knew would help me greatly. It was in that course that I discovered what the magic was that was happening to me, when I was creating art and getting into flow state, and dove deep into the science behind it as a very powerful empowerment tool for people. And so, I created a unique experience called the “Art Flowshop®”. It was merging both coaching and my passion for art…and at the time, I was living my purpose… but what I didn’t realize was that I still wasn’t complete on my journey to my purpose just yet.
Over the next few years, my life was focused on other things. I had my son and became a stay-at-home mom, and was only doing various work (like branding, marketing, and creative direction, things from my previous career) that fit into a super limited and flexible schedule. This work was not a part of my purpose, but I knew it was just helping me fulfill my creative outlet, and give me some essence of my own expression, even if it felt like crumbs. During this time, my purpose and passions were on hold, and a piece of me felt like it was dead. However, I would say that this time as a stay-at-home mom gave me another opportunity to be introspective (like when in Italy, only WAYYYY different).
I connected to myself, my power, and my belief in the connection between mind/body/energy and Universal Laws. As my son started school, and my schedule started to open up, I was eager and excited to get back to my purpose work, especially feeling lit up more than ever and bursting with anticipation to truly help people find that inner power as well. I knew I wanted to amplify what I was doing with the Art Flowshop®, and get back into my empowerment work. But I wasn’t sure how to make it align with all the things swirling in my head. I posed the question to the Universe to show me where I was supposed to go. And it answered!!! Drops of inspiration and guidance came within days.
I came across an ad for a type of art that I had never seen before, but it claimed to be able to change people’s neural pathways through their process of drawing. I was hooked because I’m super passionate about neuroscience and neuroplasticity, as well as the magic of art. I signed up immediately for that course and fell in love! I knew in my whole being that I needed to get certified to be able to use this with my clients. That drawing method is called NeuroGraphica®, and I’m currently in the process of becoming a Certified Specialist in it.
I then started exploring on ChatGPT how to communicate what I was doing with all of my specific services, and what came back was perfect – “Art as Alchemy”! The resonance that I felt when I saw this let me know that THIS.WAS.IT! This was my area to shine. It combines all the stuff I love, and all the things I’m gifted, skilled, and experienced in. It’s a combo of art, flow state, neuroscience, creative expression, empowerment coaching, energetic alignment, and also spiritual connection. I wake up excited, knowing I get to help people tap into their inner power using the magic of artistic creation, and create a life that they LOVE! I am overflowing with ideas, and driven by a force that feels beyond me now. That’s how I know this is it – or at least “it” for the time being until life leads me even closer, if that’s possible.
So, you see, you have to follow ALL of the intuitive hits and take the steps, because sometimes your unique purpose is something that can only be found after a long winding path of “almosts”.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m the founder of Art as Alchemy; where we use artistic expression as an access point for transformation and empowerment! Our methods include the Art Flowshop®, Neurographic Art, and coaching. There are even more things coming soon, including collaborations and in-person events! It’s exciting, and I’m just getting started.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Connection to my intuition (and listening to it).
This is the inner guidance that whispers in your ear (well maybe more like your heart), to give you the “yes’s” and “no’s” that lead you where you need to go to be aligned with your higher purpose.

2. Creativity.
Allowing myself to be creative and messy, and open to new ideas is what allowed what was not in existence to be created into existence. (I will say that sometimes, I have too many ideas, and can get distracted by the “new exciting thing”.) What I would tell others is to not be afraid of trying all things creative, and definitely NOT to define yourself as “not creative”. You have to try different types of creative expression and find the thing that puts you into flow. It’s an access point that allows your brain to shut down and that inner soul voice to be heard.

3. Coaching
Learning how to properly coach people to find what’s inside of them, and listening in a way to hear what’s not yet discovered, is a really powerful tool to have. It’s good for life and relating to people in general. I’m so grateful I put in the work to get that proper certification, and that I have continued to develop all the skills that help me help others.

I’d tell others to do what it takes to learn skills and expertise from professionals in your field, as well as looking for ways to make it your own. People want your unique style of magic…and they also want to know that you have done the work to know what you’re doing (at least a little).

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’d love to partner with people who are putting on retreats that focus on self development, empowerment, connection to self/higher self, amplifying inner power, art and expression. Adding an “Art as Alchemy experience” into any of these types of retreats gives your attendees a unique way to access blocks, rewire their brain, align their energy to desires, tap into flow, relax, and express themselves.

Our art empowerment experiences merge neuroscience, psychology, and coaching tools with artistic expression in order to tap into unconscious programs, transform the person’s energy and neural pathways, and ultimately unlock a new level of personal power. This could be a wonderful addition which would compliment a retreat where attendees are getting into their bodies through yoga or somatic work, or any empowerment retreat where there’s a lot of intellectualized “working on their issues”.
