Meet Daniely Martins

We recently connected with Daniely Martins and have shared our conversation below.

Daniely, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

I believe that creativity is a matter of allowing yourself to reveal what already exists.
We are constantly being bombarded by information, which generates thoughts, weather we want them or not. We don’t control the thoughts and feelings that come to us, but we choose between allowing them to develop and sending them away. If we decide to give them some attention, they will take form, time and maybe even become actions. So, to keep my creativity alive, I try to devote some regular time to my harmless fantasies. With no judgement, I give space for whatever comes to mind to exist. And our minds are filled with what it absorbs from the outside world, so I try to have contact with different kinds of references. I read different genres of books, listen to diverse types of music, watch what makes me curious and connect with extremely different people. If creativity is revelation, it requires substance to be revealed and the dissolution of judgment.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an actress and writer.

Acting came to my life to make me humble and take care of myself. I have always been very devoted to helping others, but it was only with acting that I understood that I can only help if I am well enough. It brought me the great freedom of understanding that the best part of being us is that it is unique to us. Judgment is inevitable but, if given any attention, will hold us back.

Writing is something that just happens to me, because it needs to. I don’t even try running from it, because I can’t. Telling stories has always been my way of communicating and making sense of my own existence.

In the midst of trying to make sense, I chose a career that didn’t make me happy and very soon I let it go. I packed a few bags and decided to travel the world, have different experiences and accept what I really wanted to do. And be.

My focus is on developing my art by developing myself. I have no doubt I am on the only path that can make me the best version of me.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the skills that were most impactful in my journey were observance, proactivity and detachment from what doesn’t serve. But it all only works with passion. I could only get a hold of any use of skills once I had no doubt anymore that I was on the only path for me.

The advice I would have given myself many years ago would be: stop fighting yourself. Learn to listen and be brave to make the decisions that are right for you. Deep down, we know what we need to do and the hardest task is to not get in our own way.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

The particular challenge I am currently facing is the feeling of waiting for the world to catch up to me.
I know what I can do and I am eager to do it, but it’s a need to be patient and stay prepared for when opportunities come to tell great stories in big scales.
