We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nathelie Zetrenne-norman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nathelie , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience is in my DNA. As a Haitian woman, my ancestors were the blue print for resilience. That resilience was not only passed down to me but modeled for me by my family and others in the Caribbean community. My family has instilled work ethic and determination into me. It became the foundation for the path I walk.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m Nathelie, an author, self-publishing coach, and freelancer. I never set out to become an author, but my passion for books and writing has taken me to places I never expected. Writing as a contributing writer for brands, self-publishing my own books, and assisting aspiring authors led me to launch Z House Publishing—a Haitian-owned independent publishing agency that prioritizes the amplification of culture, experiences and stories of black and brown people. Through our our work, we have imagined and developed a mechanism for building legacy.
My journey as an author and copywriter has shown me the profound impact the writing community can have on the world and our communities. As a Haitian-American woman, I understand the importance of preserving culture and creating a legacy. Through books, articles, and screenplays, we can unite worlds and turn dreams into reality. I wanted to be part of that—to create worlds where people like myself are seen thriving, worthy, and important.
My work in publishing guides and supports aspiring authors, parents, and caregivers in creating lasting legacies through books that their families and communities will cherish forever. By sharing untold stories, the narratives we wish we had heard, the stories passed down through each generation and sharing our dreams; we can build a community that fosters creativity and provides the escapism that society often tells us is out of reach.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were: 1. Creativity, 2. Vision 3. Discipline
For those starting out on their journey as authors or business owners, my biggest advice is this: stay the course and never lose sight of the vision that first sparked your passion. Creativity is the bridge that turns dreams into reality. There will be days when it feels like there aren’t enough hours, and the path forward seems overwhelming, but remember—discipline and organization are your allies.
If you can stay organized and let your love for the vision fuel you through the tough moments, you’ll be amazed at how that vision starts to come alive. Trust in your creativity; it’s the heartbeat of your journey. Lean into it fully, and let it guide you. The results will be extraordinary.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am excited to extend an invitation to fellow minority-owned businesses to join Z House Publishing in a powerful sponsorship opportunity for the Dear Beautiful Retreat. This retreat is more than just an event—it’s a transformative experience for Black women, offering a sacred space for self-rediscovery, authenticity, and deep, meaningful connections.
Set against the peaceful and stunning backdrop of Tulum, Mexico, the Dear Beautiful Retreat offers a luxurious and soul-nourishing experience. Our attendees will engage in local cultural excursions, meditation sessions, and mental health workshops—all designed to rejuvenate and restore their sense of well-being.
We are seeking to partner with like-minded minority-owned businesses who believe in the power of community and want to elevate the attendee experience through sponsorships. This is an incredible opportunity to collaborate and make a lasting impact on the lives of those who attend. Together, we can create something truly unforgettable!
