Meet Nomin

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nomin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Nomin, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

As a Mongolian girl raised in a small city on the steppe, everything about nature serves as a wellspring of inspiration for my creativity. The lifestyle of the steppe, its small animals, and even the sometimes extreme climate all evoke a vibrant sense of life in me. My hometown is a powerful driving force behind my artistic expression.
Observation is another key to maintaining my creativity. In every new place I visit, I remain curious, eager to explore the unique lifestyles of the people there and envision how to present their beauty through my art. I also believe that immersing myself in a variety of books and works—regardless of their relation to my field—is essential for nurturing creativity.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Nomin. I am an illustrator from Xilin Gol, Inner Mongolia, and I am a Mongolian. I am currently studying for an M.A. in fine arts. When I am not completing my studies, I choose to create freely. Most of the inspiration for my works comes from my childhood life experiences and the customs and customs of my hometown. I am used to drawing on the computer, but I will also try various handcrafts and hand-paintings.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

As an illustrator, three essential qualities enhance my journey: self-belief, imagination, and action.
Self-belief is crucial for navigating life, especially for artists. When I trust my abilities, I unlock new possibilities and gain the confidence to share my work and take creative risks. This belief pushes me beyond my comfort zone, allowing me to explore various styles and techniques.
Imagination is another vital quality that fuels my art. It transforms ordinary experiences into extraordinary creations, enabling me to craft worlds and narratives that resonate with others. Nurturing my imagination enriches my artwork and opens endless avenues for storytelling.
Finally, action is imperative. The creative process is a journey of experimentation, where I eagerly try new materials and mediums. Each exploration reveals untapped potential and teaches me that there’s always more to learn. Taking action keeps my work dynamic.
In summary, self-belief, imagination, and action are interconnected pillars that support my growth as an illustrator. Embracing these qualities allows me to express my vision and continually redefine what’s possible in my art.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

Hermann Hesse’s “Siddhartha” is a book that has profoundly influenced me. Its exploration of the search for meaning and self-discovery resonates deeply with my own journey. The character of Siddhartha, with his quest for enlightenment, encourages me to reflect on my values and the importance of inner growth. Hesse’s vivid portrayal of different life paths reminds me that there’s no single way to find fulfillment; each experience contributes to our understanding of ourselves. The book inspires me to embrace both the struggles and joys of my journey, reminding me that the pursuit of wisdom is as valuable as the destination itself.
