Meet Selena Alexander

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Selena Alexander. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Selena below.

Hi Selena, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

As a floral designer, I draw my resilience from the creative process itself. Working with flowers reminds me of nature’s ability to grow and thrive despite changing conditions. The challenges of running a small business, like tight deadlines or unpredictable markets, are balanced by the joy I get from seeing a finished arrangement bring happiness to someone. My passion for design and the support from my clients and community also give me the motivation to keep going, even when things get tough.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As a floral designer, I create custom floral arrangements that bring beauty and emotion to life’s special moments. Whether it’s for weddings, events, or everyday occasions, my goal is to craft designs that reflect my clients’ unique personalities and visions. What excites me most is the creative freedom flowers offer—no two designs are ever the same, and I get to work with an incredible variety of colors, textures, and forms.

One thing I love to share with people is how flowers have this incredible ability to transform spaces and uplift spirits. My brand is all about tapping into that power to create something meaningful and magical . I focus on sustainability as well, using seasonal and locally sourced flowers whenever possible. It’s important to me that my work not only brings joy but also respects the environment.

I also want folks to know that I’m here for more than just big events. Everyday moments—like a thoughtful bouquet for a loved one—are just as important. My books are open for both this upcoming year and 2026, and I’m excited to collaborate on projects of all sizes!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey, three key qualities stand out as being most impactful: creativity, resilience, and business acumen.

Floral design is an art form, and thinking outside the box is essential. Whether experimenting with unexpected color combinations or using flowers in unconventional ways, creativity helps my work stand out. To develop creativity, I constantly seek inspiration—from nature, art, and other designers. Don’t be afraid to take risks and try new ideas. The more you explore, the sharper your creative instincts will become.

Like any business, floral design has its challenges—tight deadlines, unexpected problems, or slow seasons. Resilience helps me push through those hurdles and to keep going. During tough times, I focus on my passion for the craft and remember why I started. Surrounding myself with a supportive network of family, friends, and fellow creatives has been invaluable, and I’ve learned not to hesitate to ask for help when needed.

Lastly, while passion for design is key, running a successful floral business requires strong commercial insight. From managing finances to marketing and client relations, it’s vital to treat the business side with the same care as the creative. For those starting out, I recommend learning the basics of entrepreneurship—whether through courses, books, or connecting with experienced business owners. A clear pricing strategy, market understanding, and expense tracking will set you up for long-term success. Be patient with yourself—it takes time to master both the artistic and business sides, but with persistence and passion, you’ll find your way!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes, I’m always actively looking to collaborate with other creatives in the wedding and event industry! I’m especially interested in partnering with wedding planners, photographers, stylists, and event designers who share a passion for creating unique and memorable experiences. Whether it’s working together on styled shoots, branding projects, or editorial features, I love the idea of blending my floral designs with other artistic elements to create something truly special.

Even though I am mainly focused on weddings, I’m particularly interested in providing florals for editorial and branding projects, so if you’re a creative looking to enhance your portfolio or develop a distinct visual identity for a brand, I’d love to connect! If you’re reading this and are interested in collaborating, feel free to reach out through my website or social media. Let’s bring some beautiful visions to life together!
