Meet Emily Gardner

We recently connected with Emily Gardner and have shared our conversation below.

Emily, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

My journey to becoming a realtor began when I bought my first home at just 20 years old. With no prior knowledge and guidance from the wrong people, I found myself overwhelmed and confused. The experience forced me to navigate the complex world of real estate on my own, leading to countless challenges, including a complete home renovation that I tackled myself. While it was daunting, this journey ignited a passion in me to help others avoid the same pitfalls. I realized I wanted to empower first-time homebuyers like myself, providing them with the support and knowledge I wished I had during my own experience. Becoming a realtor allows me to turn my challenges into opportunities for others, ensuring they feel confident and informed as they embark on their home-buying journey.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

As a realtor, my mission is to empower and guide first-time homebuyers through the exciting yet often daunting journey of purchasing a home. What I find most special about this role is the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives. Every transaction is more than just a sale; it’s about helping individuals and families find their dream homes and creating lasting memories. I pride myself on being a resource of knowledge and support, ensuring my clients feel confident and informed every step of the way.

I’m excited to announce that I’m launching a series of workshops tailored specifically for first-time homebuyers. These workshops will cover essential topics like navigating the mortgage process, understanding home inspections, and tips for successful renovations—everything I wish I had known when I started my journey. Whether you’re just starting to consider homeownership or ready to take the plunge, I’m here to help you every step of the way!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey to becoming a realtor, three qualities that were most impactful for me were resilience, empathy, and a commitment to continuous learning.

1. Resilience: The challenges I faced, especially during my home renovation, taught me the importance of perseverance. For those early in their journey, my advice is to embrace setbacks as learning opportunities. Each obstacle can strengthen your resolve and help you grow.

2. Empathy: Understanding the emotions and anxieties that come with buying a home is crucial. I always remind aspiring realtors to actively listen and put themselves in their clients’ shoes. Volunteering or working in customer service can help develop this skill by allowing you to connect with diverse perspectives.

3. Commitment to Continuous Learning: The real estate landscape is always evolving. I dedicated time to researching market trends, attending workshops, and seeking mentorship. For newcomers, I recommend setting aside regular time for education—whether through online courses, local seminars, or networking with experienced professionals.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

One challenge I’m currently facing is staying ahead of the rapidly changing market dynamics and trends. With fluctuating interest rates and evolving buyer preferences, it can be difficult to anticipate how these factors will impact my clients and their decisions. To tackle this, I’m focusing on deepening my market research and networking with industry professionals to gather insights and share knowledge. Additionally, I’m exploring innovative ways to communicate these changes to my clients, ensuring they feel informed and confident in their choices. Adapting to these challenges will ultimately help me provide better service and support to those I work with.
