We were lucky to catch up with Patrick Greenwood recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Patrick, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
Wonderful question! I have always felt the need to help others first before myself. I love writing very much. Proceeds of my novel and coffee sales goes to “Helmets for Kids in Vietnam” and “HelpOKI.org”
I give because I can. I have everything I could ever want in life. When I see others without a helmet or clean water to drink, or clothes, I remember how fortune I am in life. If everyone took a moment and appreciated what they have, maybe we will care more for others.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a fictional writer along with being a cybersecurity blogger for tech startup companies. My writing experience started years ago while I was traveling in Vietnam, Taiwan, and Portugal. One of the greatest things about writing, we can do anywhere!!
Another interesting fact about me, all proceeds of my books, coffee and merchandise sales goes to “Helmets for Kids in Vietnam,” and “HelpOKI.org.”
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Being dyslexic and a writer, you become very dependent on editors to help fix your grammar, sentence structure, and over book arrangement. Often these editors speak in language only fellow educated writers understand or other editors. That experience continues to be a challenge for me.
The best way to overcome challenges with your editors? Fire them if you are not happy with them, there is always others.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents were big on me living, not existing in life. My dad was in technology engineering in 1960’s. We grew up going into office when he was helping to put a man on the moon and design the first fiber optic cabling. My mother was a nurse. She would tell us stories of the ER that made us throw up our dinner, and she did it with a smile!! :).. In the end, they both wanted to us to know what life is really like to better prepare us for our future.
