We were lucky to catch up with Michelle Gates recently and have shared our conversation below.
Michelle, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my mother. She has shown me how to keep going even when things are not aligned with the planned we tried to set for ourselves.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a virtual assistant, in this role I am able to help multiple clients/business in many different ways, create systems to help workflow, administrative tasks, and assist with the more repetitive tasks.
I am most excited about the reaction of my client when I am able to present them with a more simplistic way to handle a task or the relieve they express with brining MJM on to help assist.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The most impactful experience for me was a job opportunity where I operated autonomously, managing all aspects of my tasks without predefined systems or processes in place. I was responsible for developing all the necessary documentation from scratch, which challenged me to think critically and innovatively. This role, along with the subsequent one, significantly enhanced my self-motivation and helped me recognize my potential for designing customized systems. It also made me aware of the need to support individuals and businesses with tailored solutions, especially small business owners who often require this kind of assistance.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is someone seeking support in effectively managing the demands of both their business and personal life, while prioritizing cost efficiency. By opting for a virtual assistant over an on-site assistant, clients can achieve a more flexible, budget-conscious solution that still delivers high-quality assistance tailored to their unique needs.
