Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lakiesha Allen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
LaKiesha, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
After a childhood filled with all forms of abuse, and finding out my biological father was also my grandfather, I was done with life. I attempted suicide for the first time as a teenager, and it was that night when I had my first encounter with God. That night, as I was vomiting up the pills I had swallowed, God told me He needed me to trust Him. He told me He would use my voice one day, but I would need to trust Him.
Even though I had spent my young life doubting the God of my grandmother, somehow that night I knew He was indeed who she said He was, and while still angry at Him for all that I had endured, I hung on to his words tight that night, and I still do to this day.
He kept His word, and I continue to trust Him, and He does indeed use my voice for His purpose and glory.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
The documentary of my life has been released in two different forms. The full-length documentary is on YouTube, and a shorter version has been seen by millions across the globe. For so long, I thought that my story was so unique that no one else could possibly understand my trauma. Unbeknownst to me, rape and incest are more prevalent than I could have ever imagined. So many women have shared their stories with me, and many others are waiting to do the same, and with each story, I am more amazed at the prevalence and the secrecy that keeps so many women silent and bound to their trauma.
What has transpired since the release of both documentaries, is nothing short of a God-ordained miracle. I have been invited unto several platforms to share my story and to speak on topics related to healing, forgiveness, trauma, and the like. I have also birthed the ministry God placed inside of me, Purposed To Restore, with the intent to bring salvation, healing and deliverance to the lost and the broken.
I am grateful to God every day for entrusting me with such a meaningful and profound purpose, in spite of the pain attached to it. Hearing and reading the feedback from women who tell me that they’ve been inspired to speak up and live in their truth, is all the motivation I need to continue walking this walk.
Recently, after hearing from God, I went back to school to begin the process of becoming a Christian Mental Health Therapist. I have earned 2 degrees since going back to school in June 2023, and I am now in a graduate program. My steps are ordered by God, and I intend to walk every step placed before me, even without seeing the entire staircase.
I am also an author several times over with books on Amazon, as well as two powerful anthologies I am a part of. While working a 9-5, operating a ministry, and going to school full-time, I also operate two businesses part-time as well.
I am busy busy, these days, and I wouldn’t trade a moment of it for anything.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that have been most impactful in my life would have to be:
The ability to forgive
Resilience, and
Determination.
My advice to anyone would be to simply lean on God and not your understanding, or the understanding of man with regard to how you are to live. The Bible really is our guide, or instructions while on Earth, so reading it in a format you can understand, while asking God to help you understand it, is vital to your survival in this crazy world we live in.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
The main challenge for me in this present moment is accepting everything that comes with who God has called me to be, and the perils associated with it. I didn’t go into specifics in earlier questioning, but I am both a Prophet and a Seer. It is extremely difficult living in a world full of sin, knowing that I have to stay silent 95% of the time about what I see. I have embraced the wisdom in knowing that I am in this world, but I am not of it. I am a spiritual being living a natural existence, and my prayer daily is for everyone to understand the true purpose of life on Earth, and to live according to that truth.
