We caught up with the brilliant and insightful David Navarro a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
David , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I believe my work ethic comes from my moms side , she always worked hard for what i remember , cause i start working when i was 15 years old and at some point i had 3 jobs , i like to work hard and when you in that kind of environment like i am in a kitchen you can go for hours standing 11 to 14 hours some times, it all has to do with, do you love what you do, because if you don’t love what you do than is miserable and boring right away, but if you love what you do and is your passion, 14 hours can turn to be like 2 hours only , you know what i mean.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Im originally from Guadalajara, Mexico , i been in the states for about 30 years now , i really find my passion in cooking more than anything else, i been working in a lot of restaurants in Las Vegas not only cooking but also , serving, Banquets, Bartending and managing, so basically i did it all in the hospitality service, but where i really got passionate about was to cooking healthy and than doing what they call meal prepping, i find it fun and you can get creative with meal prepping, thats what took me to open Mealworkslv , it all started like a ministry at my church first I designed i hot lunch program
There for the private school for kids from kindergarten to 8th grade , than cooking for staff and pastors , before that i had a partner and we where doing meal prep for big companies and regular clients but and the end we decided to go separate ways and thats how I ended up doing that lunch program and cooking at my church, also i went back to work at restaurants and casinos, and after i really decided to fully get all my attention to mealworkslv to start meal prepping for people more like friends who wanted to lose weight and they ask me to do diets for them
And cooking all craziest food for them , results where good and they brought me clients and like that from word of mouth went spreading little by little, and i think that is the best way to get going, word of mouth and little by little, and here we are now , i change menu every week so clients don’t get bored of same food all the time , try to keep it healthy and with great Quality, so what im focusing now is to keep branding Mealworkslv , and expand in different parts of the city of Las Vegas.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Enjoy your process and be patient with yourself, love what your doing, know that in time you will be successful if you trust in yourself and don’t be hard in yourself, Now in this time we living in i think we want a quick gratification, because we are in this so fast pase world of
Living that if we don’t get want we want or get it right away the first time people gets frustrated, know that to get where you want to get and be, sometimes is not going to be fast and is going to take time and mistakes and failures to get where you want to get or be , but trust in the process and in yourself because if you want the best or be the best is going to be a long road sometimes but is worth it even if is only for your family and their approval but when you at that point, and you have your family’s approval than I believe you can go out and get everyone else and its going to be easier to conquer the world, your world of what you want to do. Because everyone has a Story and we have our own Worlds in Our mind , each individual is Unique , and we can learn from each other .
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Honestly when i feel overwhelmed i go to God, my advice for someone is that sometimes things are not going to go our way and the best way i believe is to pray for that situation you going thru, stay calm and take some time to think , and go and talk to someone you trust and talk to them, sometimes when you talk about the problem and have people you trust and you tell them to pray with you about what you going thru it release something and you will see how God will help you in that.
