Meet Melissa Kincaid

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Melissa Kincaid a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Through experience, trial and error, and lots of therapy! I think that true confidence comes from making mistakes, learning from them, and showing up again and again despite the fear. We don’t learn and grow without making mistakes. Building confidence is about having the courage to face that fear of rejection through mistakes. When you make a friend out of the fear and allow your desire to shine brighter than the fear itself, you can do what you are put on this planet to do. You become a light for others.

I grew up incredibly shy and introverted. I still am very introverted but I knew that I wanted to be more than someone who just sat in the corner and was invisible. Looking back, I can see that every time I put myself out there I learned a bit more about myself and how others react to me. And when I made mistakes (starting with small mistakes) I saw that no one paid nearly as much attention to those mistakes as I did. And I realized that I’m holding back from being authentically myself. I had a much larger fear of not living life fully as myself than I feared what others may think of me. From there, I gained quiet confidence around using my voice and expressing my opinions. Start small and grow from there.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am an evidential psychic medium. What that means is that I connect energetically to your soul and the souls of your loved ones who have passed into the spirit world to bring you messages of hope, healing, and love so that you may live your life more fully and authentically to who you really are. And my intention is to bring evidence to you of your own life or your loved ones’ lives that are specific and unique to you or your loved one so you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am connecting to your soul.

This work is my passion and purpose in my life. And I am so honored to get to read for people and connect them to the most loving and vulnerable sides of themselves. I believe that knowing yourself and your loved ones at such a deep and meaningful level brings great healing and understanding. And with that, my clients are able to bring more love and understanding to this world and others around them. It’s a gift that I know has giant ripple effects in the universe.

I do both private readings and group readings (which are called demonstrations) online via zoom and you can find me on Facebook, Instagram, and at my website www.melissakincaid.com for information about upcoming events.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

For myself I would say self development, working with a mentor, and trusting myself and spirit. I think all of these could easily apply to any industry you are in as an entrepreneur. For self development, there are many ways to look at this. My mentor says that “the weaknesses in yourself will be the weaknesses in your mediumship” and it is so true. If I am dealing with some hurt from the past that has me leaning into my introversion, then I am going to be less confident in doing any of my readings. It is the same with any industry. If you can’t get out of your own way because you are overly controlling, then your business will never flourish the way that you want it to. Self development is about knowing yourself and accepting what you have been through and loving yourself through that. Therapy helps!

A mentor is essential in learning more about yourself and how you want to show up in your business. And getting the right mentor can take time. For myself, I went through 4 different teachers before I ended up with my current teacher/mentor. And I needed all of those teachers to be ready for my current one (whom I’ve been studying with for 6 years now). He has been instrumental in pointing things out to me that I was unable or unwilling to see myself that needed to change and shift for my mediumship to open and become stronger. Humbling yourself to know that you need a mentor and then engaging with one will be a huge step forward in your growth.

And trust is such a big one. Trusting your instincts or intuition on who is the right person for you to partner with, or which opportunity is the right one for you is a hard won skill. Some people seem to have a knack for it at the beginning, but I think most people have to go through a lot of mistakes where you ignore your intuition and see how things go wrong before you really start to take action on trusting your gut. Trust yourself and follow those nudges!

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

Being better and more consistent on marketing and posting on social media! I spoke in an earlier question about trusting myself and that is still a work in progress. Trusting those nudges to get on social media and post what my heart is telling me to is still a challenge for me. And marketing myself and my services. I’ve come a long way in my confidence, but the shy introverted girl inside of me still lives there!
