Meet Jameel Scott

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jameel Scott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jameel below.

Jameel, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

Growing up in the robust city of Philadelphia, I had no choice but to learn how to adapt to being raised in a tough environment where you are faced with difficult challenges daily. Plus having Baby Boomers as parents, they helped me to become very strong minded. Every struggle I faced, it just made me resilient. I have experienced so much failure in my life that it started to make me feel numb to failures, in which that made me get inspired to only become better at anything I apply myself to.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m Jameel, I’m a Freelance Photographer and I own Dream First Clothing LLC. I always had a love for just being a creator of anything in entertainment and arts. I got into photography 10 years ago as an hobby but did not take it serious until 5 years ago. I took a few photography classes until I found out I can learn more from YouTube University for free. Taking pictures gives me a sense of calmness and happiness. So I do my best to take my camera everywhere I go. It’s important for me to invest into things that bring me happiness. My newest venture which is my clothing business Dream First Clothing LLC, I first started selling t-shirts two years ago. I had this idea of making t-shirts and hoodies with inspirational quotes or some type of positive message on them. I became tired of buying over priced clothing brands, so I started to do my own research on how to make logos and watched a lot of videos about how to create my own clothing brand. So everything I learned I applied to the creation of my brand. It just makes me feel good to see something I designed and people are wearing it. The feeling is so satisfying, plus it’s all positive! We live in such a world full of hatred and bad energy, I wanted to create garments that is attached to positive words which creates positive energy. Please feel free to checkout my website, I have t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, hats and tank tops available for men and women. Here is the website address: www.dreamfirstclothing.com

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

When I look back on my journey on becoming a photographer and owner of a clothing brand, it was my confidence and determination to always believe in myself. Without believing in yourself, you can’t do anything! I would like to say to anyone who is looking to start a business or just getting into that hobby, make sure you have a love for it and do all of your research before starting and lastly Invest Invest Invest In Yourself!

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

A friend of mine told me about this book called “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz, they let me borrow it and I finished reading the book in about 2 weeks. It’s a short read but filled with powerful inspirational words and advice. This book definitely helped me a lot with my personal development. I would recommend it to everyone..
