Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittani And Daniel Lam. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Brittani and Daniel, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
In an industry where there’s no real defining characteristic to separate the “real” creatives from the “fakes,” it’s easy to feel like we’re not up to par with the others around us. It’s all subjective, right? So when we feel a little like we’re not quite measuring up, we try to pinpoint exactly why we’re feeling that way. Is it that we’re in a creative rut? Are we not booking the number of clients we feel we “should” be? Whatever the reason, acknowledging what it is specifically that’s making us feel “less than” in that moment can really show us what we can do to overcome those feelings.
Once we figure out the reason for our feelings, we can reframe our mindset. We think about the clients who choose us to capture their special memories and also other creatives in the industry who have worked with us and had positive experiences and we realize that we’re actually doing pretty cool things in our field.
It’s also pretty nice having each other to support one another throughout the ups and downs of our career.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As wedding photographers and filmmakers, our goal is to capture the memories of our clients, and transport them back to their special day, evoking the same emotions and feelings they experienced all over again. We value self-expression, creativity, and authenticity. We strive to portray those values in all of our work. Initially, we didn’t anticipate loving the wedding industry as much as we do now, however being a part of the most important moments in our clients’ lives changed that for us. The most rewarding aspect is getting to know each couple and witnessing the unique beauty of their love story. We’re all are truly one-of-a-kind, and it makes our work all the more fulfilling! Love fuels our collaboration, and we reciprocate support to ensure that every precious moment of our clients’ special day is flawlessly documented. We believe that every couple has a unique story to tell, and it’s our mission to bring that tale to life through our lens. We value authenticity and strive to capture the essence of love in its purest form. From the grand gestures to the subtle glances, we’ll be silent witnesses, ensuring that no cherished detail goes unnoticed.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Great communication plays such an important role in what we do. Learning to communicate with people effectively throughout the process of a project has been invaluable in making sure there’s no confusion at any point.
Embracing creativity and following through on executing ideas has set us up for success because it allows us to stand out and it keeps us going. We try not to do the same things over and over again so it’s not a monotonous job. We love changing things up.
Commitment to learning and educating ourselves on the constant evolution of the technical side of things whether it be new gear, new software, new trends, etc. It all works together to improve our end product and we’re always looking to better ourselves in order to serve our clients to the best of our ability.
Advice for those early in the journey? Practice, practice, practice. Ask questions. Learn from mistakes–because you will make mistakes. Don’t copy what everyone else is doing. Define your own style by trying new ideas.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
We’re always looking for fun folks to collab with! We love getting to know other vendors and combining all of our skills to create a fire end product. We also love working with fun couples wanting to document and share their love stories. Our ideal client is willing to try out-of-the-box ideas, be vulnerable in front of our cameras, and values the memories we capture to stand the test of time.
