We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Janaeah Holloway. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Janaeah below.

Janaeah, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

God , I know I would not be here without him . And he is the one that gave me the vision of what I could be if I continue to evolve into the person I am meant to be . It’s a humbling journey that’s never ending , but I constantly look for the purpose and lessons in all things good or bad . Because I know that all our experiences are teaching us , and as I get closer to god these lessons get more tolerable to overcome . And I know I was put in this position to show others that it can be done . No matter how people interpret that , I just do my best to show up as my most authentic self , and I never give up .

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am an Artist, I practice many different mediums including tattooing . Both skills go hand and hand and as I get better in one area it strengthens my skill in another . I’ve been an artist all my life , but I did not take it serious as a career until I was about 22. I originally went to college to become a registered veterinary technician. I thought animals were my passion. After I graduated, I worked in the field for about a year and a half, and then I realized that this was not fulfilling me or my purpose. I still love animals deeply, but I knew that I was not meant to work for anyone else so I quit my job and begin pursuing my art career selling paintings, etc. I and then I got into tattooing. I currently own a tattoo shop in the bay area with my fiancé. And when I’m not tattooing I am painting murals around the Bay Area .
Entrepreneurship has been a journey That I would want to trade for anything else I can’t imagine myself doing anything, but this I know this is what I meant to do because as soon as I made the decision to pursue my purpose that is when doors open up for me and I know this is just the beginning . I am currently pursuing my Bachelors degree in fine arts. I’ve always wanted to go to a art university. This is kind of just for fun and to strengthen my art skills and learn and a bachelors degree in fine art just sounds cool 🙂

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The best qualities that I feel like I have is believing in myself, even when other people don’t. Even when I feel like I have not made any progress. Or even when I feel like things are stagnant. Celebrating the little wins and being grateful for the position that you’re in right now. Don’t think that you’ll be happy once you get to that goal. Be happy in the moment now appreciate what you have now because there’s a lesson to be learned in every season of your life even when you’re stagnant, even when things look Bad or they don’t look how you pictured them. All of it is apart of the process it is all part of the journey. It’s all part of God‘s plan. Those are the things that have pushed me through these times even when times got hard and those are the things that have kept me going Having a relationship with God and knowing that his plan for you is way bigger and better than the plan you think you have for yourself. Get in tune with your creator That’s my best advice

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

I pray first. I do a lot of self reflecting and I ask myself. Is this something that I can change in this moment? Is this situation something I have control over? Is this something that I put myself in. Is this a consequence of my own actions. These are the kind of questions I ask myself. Most of the time the situation we’re in we don’t have control over. And if it’s not something that I can change now, then I do my best not to worry about it because I know that this moment is as it should be even if it’s uncomfortable.
