We were lucky to catch up with Jenny Sims recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jenny, we are so appreciative of you taking the time to open up about the extremely important, albeit personal, topic of mental health. Can you talk to us about your journey and how you were able to overcome the challenges related to mental issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
I’ve overcome heavy things in my life—alcoholism, drug abuse, ongoing mental health struggles, domestic violence, burnout, and impostor syndrome. But when I look at it, the one constant through all of it is that I just keep showing up. Even when I feel raw, even when it hurts. Even when I don’t want to get out of bed or face the world, I do it anyway. And even in those moments where I don’t like myself or feel like I’m not enough, I still push forward.
I’ve learned that it’s not about perfection or having all the answers. It’s about resilience, about being willing to take the next step even when the weight feels unbearable. Whether that means reaching out for help, setting boundaries, or just getting through one more day, I’ve figured out how to survive those moments and come out stronger on the other side.
I remind myself that showing up is the foundation for everything. And because I keep doing that, I’m still standing.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Dog Life Balance Las Vegas is about helping dog owners create a balanced, fulfilling relationship with their dogs. My goal is to provide personalized, effective training that fits seamlessly into people’s lives, whether it’s virtual or in-person. I focus on using positive reinforcement to address behavior issues, build communication, and strengthen the bond between dogs and their owners.
Ultimately, my mission is to empower dog parents with the tools and knowledge they need to live harmoniously with their pets. Whether it’s basic manners, addressing reactivity, or advanced training, I want to help people understand their dogs better and create a balanced life where both human and canine thrive. Through this business, I’m not just offering training—I’m offering a holistic approach that takes into account the well-being of both the dog and the owner, working to make life with dogs more enjoyable, less stressful, and deeply rewarding.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities that have really helped me in my journey are resilience, compassion, and dedication. Resilience has been key, especially as a single parent and in my personal recovery. No matter what challenges come my way, I’ve learned to adapt, keep going, and grow from those experiences. Compassion plays a huge role in how I work with both people and dogs. Understanding their needs and emotions helps me connect on a deeper level and provide the support they need. Finally, dedication has driven me to keep pushing forward in my career—whether it’s gaining certifications, starting my own business, or creating meaningful relationships between dogs and their owners, I stay committed to my goals every step of the way. honestly I just show up every day!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m looking to partner and connect with groomers, dog walkers, and other pet professionals to build a network that benefits both the pets and their owners. By collaborating, we can offer a more complete approach to pet care, ensuring that dogs get the training, grooming, and exercise they need for a well-rounded, healthy life. I believe in the power of community, and by working together, we can refer clients, share insights, and support each other in providing the best possible services. My goal is to create strong, lasting partnerships that elevate the standard of care and make life easier and more enjoyable for both pets and their people.
