We were lucky to catch up with Casey Jacox recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Casey, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
At ripe old age of 48, I still gain resilience from an injury in football that happened when I was 17 years old. This experience taught me so much about humility, vulnerability, curiosity, and leadership.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I empower individuals and companies to harness humility, vulnerability, and curiosity to build stronger relationships. I’m a former college quarterback turned successful corporate sales executive who bet on himself in 2020 to start my entrepreneurial journey. Throughout my life, I’ve always been surrounded by talented people. They have helped bring the best out in me and how I share those best practices and learnings with my clients either in a one/one setting or on a stage speaking to many. After writing my book (Win The Relationship, Not The Deal), speaking and coaching have been my true calling, and I don’t feel like I work a day in my life now.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Curiosity, humility & vulnerability
Advice would be twofold.
*Be interested in others, not Interesting
*Ask yourself this question, “Would you rather be right or get what you want?” – Some of the best advice I ever received!
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Getting Naked – Malcolm Gladwell.
Nearly 15 years ago, one of my friends told me to read this book. It’s all about being authentic, vulnerable, humble, and transparent. It is a business fable that further ignited my passion for those qualities. I’ve found those qualities so important when I build relationships with friends, family, and businesses. I thought about this book often when I was a #1 seller at my former employer. I always focused hard on highlighting my team and thanking others. I used that same mindset when I was a college quarterback, too.
