We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sherine Onukwuwe. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sherine below.
Sherine, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome is heavily rooted in comparison. I stopped idolizing other people. We all have our lived experiences and you never know what someone had to overcome to achieve what they achieved. These experiences afford or deny opportunities, and refine or inhibit creativity, etc. So there is no comparison. o each, their God-given talent or skill developed by the nose to the grindstone. You just have to live and grow in your own skin. As any kind of artist, I think you have to be a strong believer in the spirit of metamorphosis and heavily equipped with an armour of audacity.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Souleyefilms specializes in event photography, live events, and mini-documentaries.
The most enjoyable part of what I do, quite frankly is listening to people tell stories and people watching.
You may be shooting b-roll and catching people in your lens or listening to a Centurian talk about racism in 1920 and their experience in WWI. I also like the ability to set my own schedule

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think I have a natural ability to be organized and problem solve. These skills come in handy when managing a set or crew. Some of the skills I had to develop I did through doing. I was not so much a scientist, which is definitely a big part of film and photography. I learned more teaching amateur classes. The questions students had helped refine my knowledge and practice.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
When I became a mother I lost a lot of crafting and creative time. I wasn’t able to disappear for 5 hours to shoot photographs or sit and edit a video until 3 am like I used to do. I’ve had to incrementally practice and learn to think efficiently in short burst and maximize my time.
