We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Agatha Achindu a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Agatha, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity is deeply rooted in my upbringing. Growing up, my siblings and I were raised with the understanding that true service is about giving, especially to those in need. My parents instilled in us the belief that generosity comes from the heart and should be shared with dignity and grace, just as if we were serving our closest friends. My dad would often remind us, “God loves a cheerful giver.” Whether we were sharing food or lending a hand, the spirit of giving was always accompanied by a sense of honor.
One memory that stands out is when we would take food to a neighbor in need. We never just delivered it in any ordinary dish. We used my mother’s finest bowls—the same ones reserved for our honored guests. It wasn’t just about the food; it was about treating the recipient with the same care and respect we would extend to family.
This value carried me through life and has guided my journey in business as well. I’ll never forget the joy of fulfilling a promise I made to the Feed the Children Foundation. In 2011, at EXPO East, a representative from the organization stopped by my booth. My business was still small, and I didn’t yet have the resources to donate. But I made a heartfelt promise that, one day, I would give in a big way.
Five years later, in 2016, I was finally able to keep that promise. I called Chet Jones of Feed the Children and said, “My name is Agatha Achindu. I met your team back in 2011, and now, I’m ready to donate two truckloads of fresh, frozen organic baby food for Christmas.” That moment brought me to tears—it was such a powerful reminder that giving blesses not just the receiver, but the giver as well. It’s a cycle of care that nourishes both sides.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the founder and lead coach of Life Unprocessed™, a boutique wellness coaching and consultancy where I help women unlearn generational habits and misconceptions about wellness.
The most exciting and fulfilling part of my work is witnessing the life-changing transformations that happen when clients rediscover their power to heal and thrive.
One of the most humbling moments is when a client comes to me, frustrated after years of medications they were told they’d need for life. Through personalized nutrition and lifestyle changes, they not only improve their health—often surprising their doctors by getting off medications—but they also bring their entire family along on the journey. That ripple effect of healing—watching a family regain their health—is a gift beyond words.
One story I will carry in my heart forever is of a client who had been on blood pressure medication for 20 years. Things seemed stable until she began having kidney issues. We worked together for eight months, and during that time, her markers improved significantly. She no longer needed to see her nephrologist, and eventually, she was weaned off her blood pressure meds. Moments like these are a true testament to the power of the human body when provided the mind, body and spirit nourishment it needs through personalized care and commitment to holistic health.
Whether through my brand, my cookbook Bountiful Cooking, or my one-on-one coaching, I am dedicated to guiding people toward healthier, more intentional lives. The work is about nourishing mind, body, and spirit—because true wellness starts from within.
As for what’s new, Bountiful Cooking has been such a joy, and I’m grateful to see it in bookstores across the country. It’s more than a collection of recipes—it’s a tool to help families eat in season, choose ingredients that support their health, and enjoy delicious, wholesome meals together. With the ongoing expansion of Life Unprocessed™, we’re offering even more ways to connect and support our community through new coaching programs and workshops. I’m excited for what’s ahead!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I believe three key qualities that have had the most impact on my journey are perseverance, faith, and a commitment to continuous learning. Each of these has played a pivotal role in helping me navigate challenges and seize opportunities.
First, perseverance—when I think of my journey, it brings a smile. I remember starting my first brand, Yummy Spoonfuls Organics, in my home kitchen, spending countless hours at farmers markets to raise awareness about fresh organic foods for kids, free from preservatives. There were countless moments when things didn’t go as planned, but I kept pushing. Because I was able to keep going, that little kitchen project grew into a multi-million-dollar company with national distribution in major retailers like Target and Walmart. I still recall the first time a 30-foot Target refrigerated trailer pulled up in front of our manufacturing plant—it was a far cry from those early days when I was selling just a few hundred dollars’ worth of food. I’ve learned that the ability to keep going, even when the road feels long or uncertain, is where real growth happens. It’s in those moments we develop the strength to achieve what once seemed impossible.
Second, faith has been my guiding light. Trusting in God’s timing and believing that everything happens for a reason gave me the courage to keep showing up for myself, my family, and my community. I carry close to my heart 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Trusting in God’s purpose for my life has allowed me to let go of fear and embrace the belief that even when things don’t unfold as expected, they will always work out for my good.
Finally, continuous learning has been crucial. Whether diving deeper into my passion for holistic health or listening to my clients’ stories, I’ve always believed that there is something new to learn each day. The willingness to remain a student of life keeps us adaptable and fuels our growth, both personally and professionally.
For those just starting out, especially young women, don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t follow your career dreams because you’re a mom. You have ideas and passions to bring to the world. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t live a fully fulfilled life because your path can include many things—you can be a great mom and have a great career. Surround yourself with positive, supportive people, and take care of yourself—physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. You can’t care for others or fulfill your potential without caring for yourself first. You are worth it. Lastly, be patient with yourself and your journey. Great things take time.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The late Paul A. Stitt’s book Beating the Food Giant has been incredibly influential in my journey. Stitt, a food scientist who worked for some of the world’s top food companies before founding his own healthy food business, opened my eyes to the possibility that you could achieve mass-market success while staying true to healthy, nourishing ingredients.
His work helped me solidify a vision for my business, Yummy Spoonfuls, and reinforced my belief that commercial food can be made both delicious and wholesome—without the use of harmful additives or preservatives.
One of the most impactful nuggets of wisdom from Stitt’s book is the idea that real, fresh food doesn’t have to compromise on flavor or appeal to be successful. His dedication to proving that healthy, additive-free food could stand alongside big brands resonated deeply with me. It gave me the confidence to not only develop my brand but to fight for what I believed in—creating products that parents could trust, knowing they were made with ingredients as pure as the ones they’d use at home.
This concept has been at the heart of everything I do, from Yummy Spoonfuls to Life Unprocessed™. Stitt’s work was a reminder that integrity and passion can drive real, lasting change in the way we eat and live. It shaped my commitment to creating food that heals, empowers, and nurtures, not just physically but on a deeper level—because how we feed ourselves and our families matters.
