Meet Nickie Nou

We were lucky to catch up with Nickie Nou recently and have shared our conversation below.

Nickie, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My work ethic is deeply rooted in the example I saw growing up from my mom. She was a force of consistency, persistence, and heart in everything she did, whether it was her career, education, motherhood, or even friendships. Watching her unwavering commitment to anything she set her hands to shaped how I approach my own work. She always showed me that hard work and dedication, paired with genuine passion, are the keys to making things happen. That foundation is something I carry with me every day in my own journey.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

For the past 10 years, I’ve been working with my acclaimed hair care brand, Curls Dynasty, where my passion for the beauty industry truly took off. That passion has now expanded into the service side with the launch of IBol Beauty, the first 24-hour salon in Coral Springs, FL. I absolutely love serving people and helping them look and feel their best, and the salon allows us to do that with unmatched convenience. As for what’s next, we’re excited to announce the opening of more 24-hour IBol Beauty locations this November 2024, expanding our reach to serve even more clients.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I love this question! Looking back, three key qualities I’d say that were most impactful in my journey are persistence, adaptability, and vision. Persistence kept me moving forward through challenges, adaptability allowed me to embrace changes and grow, and having a clear vision gave me a roadmap to follow. For anyone early in their journey, I’d say focus on building resilience, discipline and consistency—keep pushing even when things get tough. Be open to learning and adjusting as you go because the ability to pivot is crucial. And most importantly, stay connected to your ‘why’—let that guide your decisions and fuel your passion.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

This definitely has to be “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie. One of the most impactful lessons for me was the power of empathy—learning to see things from others’ perspectives and genuinely listening. It also reinforced the idea that being kind and respectful goes a long way in building lasting relationships. Another valuable nugget was the importance of encouragement over criticism, which has shaped how I lead my teams and connect with clients. It’s a timeless book that’s helped me grow both personally and professionally. I love this book and revisit it regularly.
