We recently connected with Rachel Warmath and have shared our conversation below.
Rachel, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Confidence is practice. It comes from within. For me, it’s been less about huge milestone achievements and more about embracing and enjoying the process. I often think of it as keeping the small promises I make to myself, but also having grace and compassion for myself on days when I don’t have as much energy as I thought I would. Resting is an important part of confidence that we don’t often hear about much.
Self-esteem is also a practice. It’s a daily choice to know myself, understand my patterns, and have compassion for all parts of me.
Together, confidence and self-esteem are all about remembering that who I am is enough, and that there’s nothing I need to prove, do, or accomplish to be worthy. I’m allowed to just be me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hey, I’m Rachel. I’m a multi-disciplinary writer and 8-time best-selling independent author. I edit nonfiction, poetry, and memoir books and specialize in working on books in the personal development, leadership, new age spirituality, health and wellness categories.
I love helping writers refine their manuscripts, let go of perfectionism and imposter syndrome, and plan book launches that feel exciting, rewarding, and aligned with their unique vision. I’m all about reminding “small-time” artists that they are a very big deal, because you *ARE!*
Local artists make a huge impact in their communities and in the workplace.
I believe in the power of self-publishing as a healing process, a transformational journey that can lead you into a more confident version of yourself. I’ve experienced it myself and seen it with the hundreds of authors I’ve worked with over the years.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
When it comes to self-publishing, I think these are three powerful areas for an aspiring author to focus on:
Self-Trust and Intuition: If you are in tune with your intuition, writing flows so much more easily than if you’re second-guessing your every move. Keep small promises to yourself. Show up when you say you’re going to show up. Show yourself that you can trust yourself. This gives you a ton of confidence towards knowing you’ll finish writing your book.
Overall Wellness: Taking care of your body, mind, and emotions is a key part of becoming an author! In order to be productive and stay creative, you also need to prioritize things like sleep, nutrition, and physical movement. Stepping into authorhood essentially requires you to rise into an even more balanced and healthy version of yourself so that you can get through the work of all that writing.
A Deep Sense of Purpose for the Project: When you know the “why” behind you’re book, it’s easier to make decisions along the way. It’s also a way to tap into inner reserves of strength and courage on days when it gets tough. Write down your why and have it close by when you’re writing so you can refer to it. I also recommend revisiting your why and revising it and adding to it as the project goes along.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I love connecting with other writers, editors, publishing pros, and people who are brand new to the world of publishing! There’s a lot out there to navigate, lots of different coaches and companies to choose from, and it helps to have conversations early on where you can learn without feeling pressure.
Some of my favorite conversations are with writers who have been waiting their whole lives to write a book, and with people who haven’t yet thought of themselves as “real” writers, who are just starting out on the writing journey. Whichever category you fall into, or maybe you’re a different kind of creative who is just daydreaming about writing a book, I’d love to connect with you and hear more about your story.
I also love connecting with podcast hosts, fellow authors, poets, dreamers, business owners, and visionaries about their stories and writing needs.
