We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jaclyn May. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jaclyn below.
Jaclyn, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Growing up I was super shy but i was always confident at an early age. I feel like i was always very comfortable in my skin. Thinking back to when I was in high school I was 14 wearing bright red skinny jeans with a crazy top and a vest… it was the times ok? Hannah Montana was my fashion icon around that time and probably saw her wear something like it in a magazine and was inspired.
To this day I still dress crazy. I dye my hair crazy colors. I do what makes me feel confident. I’m sure people had things to say but I grew up with two older brothers so a bit of teasing never really got to me. I learned at a young age if I felt pretty, I was pretty. That was all i needed. I think the self-esteem grew with me just loving who I was and not letting anyone else telling me otherwise. I think i’m in the profession i’m in now because of that confident 14 year old that just wanted to be herself. I definitely had my doubts at times. I once cut full bangs when Camp Rock came out and then I realized that maybe I should just stick to being me because Joe Jonas was not going to mistake me for Demi Lovato.
I think the key to confidence is just never compare yourself to others. You are you and you should embrace it. Being a content creator with a younger demographic I need to show that you just have to be yourself. Dye your hair a crazy color. Wear something out of style. If it makes you feel confident and beautiful do it.
And now as a 31 year old I can definitely say i’m no longer shy. I’m not sure when I exactly grew out of it but when you’re being yourself, expressing yourself becomes easier and you learn how to use your voice.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Jac and I’m a content creator from NYC. I have been pursuing social media for 10 years now and love being able to create a community based around all the things I’m passionate about. Having a beauty niche, I have taken my platform as a way to show younger kids to be yourself, step out of the box, and be someone they can look up to as a role model. It is so important to teach the younger generation that beauty comes from whatever you want it to be and not what we think it has to be.
Growing up, I embraced never fitting in. I didn’t want to be like anyone else. I marched to my own drum and always knew I was not suppose to take the normal route of heading to college and having a 9-5 job. That was not me even if it meant I had to prove a lot of people wrong by taking a risk.
At 21, I dropped out of college and started researching everything I could about social media. I not only dived into the creative side, but also the business side. How was I gonna make this my career and succeed?
This journey has never been easy but, I always knew it was gonna be worth it.
My Tiktok currently has over 530,000 followers and in the past 30 days has over 4.9 million video views where I create content all around hair and beauty. I have 38K on Instagram where in 2021 created my very on IG Digital Magazine called JacMyStyle. Having these platform has also given me the opportunity to work with over 200 brands, many that I have loved and supported for years that now support me just as much.
You can be ANYTHING you want in this world. Don’t let people dim your light or your dreams. Stepping out of your comfort zone is already doing something so many people in this world are scared of.
Don’t give up on the things that make you, you.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Communication: I think communication is one of the most important skills you can have. I definitely wish when I was younger starting out on my occupation goals, that i asked more questions. Being a content creator and growing up with every single social media platform, I think I had to learn everything on my own. I kinda secluded myself and I do wish I networked and communicated more to the people that were doing the same thing. If you have a question or want to know more start up a conversation. I learned a lot more when I put myself out there rather than sitting and wondering.
Patience: If it was easy you wouldn’t appreciate it as much. Success and achieving your goals take time. Don’t get unmotivated. Don’t be too hard on yourself. If i ever feel overwhelmed I take a day off. If you’re doing what you love you’ll wake up the next day refreshed and energized. You don’t have to rush to the finish line.
Confidence: Be confident in what you’re doing. If you are confident people will notice it. It’s like a fake it until you make it mentality but it works. Be confident in who you are and what you want to do. This also plays into manifesting. if you believe it it will happen. You got this. you can do it. Believe it.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Right before I dropped out of college I took a Mental Health Class as an elective. We had to read a book and it was called
“All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” by Robert Fulghum. To this day I still go back and read this book. It’s an uplifting book about life and really made me open my mind and feel hopeful. It is a bunch of short stories and an easy read. “The Mermaid” is a story in this book that I connect with deeply. It’s a great way to remind myself to be me. I have taken a lot of advice from that book. We get older and things seem more complicated but a lot of the things we learned at a young age are simple solutions. Things are only complicated if you allow them to be. Read the book. I promise it’s worth it.
