Meet Evershock

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Evershock. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Evershock, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever head any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?

In Evershock, we occasionally experience writers block, as all artists do. We overcome this is in many different ways. Improvising a song on the spot, or “jamming”, is a great way for musicians to find the sound they’re looking for and connect with other musicians. Jamming has resulted in us creating some of our favorite songs to date! Another way we overcome writers block is through collaboration, which usually starts when one of us shows the rest of the band a new riff or song part. The other members then each add their own unique layer of sound to the song, eventually figuring out and establishing the song’s structure.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

We are Evershock, a young alternative rock band from Orlando, Florida. Our band consists of guitarist/vocalist Braden Showley, lead guitarist Valentino Terry, bassist Thomas Mendoza, and drummer James Edwards. Together, the four of us create songs that combine elements of many different rock subgenres. The list of our influences is a long one which spans decades, ranging from the 1950s to the present day. We try not to let our music defined by the limits of one single genre, but we do think that it is best described as alternative rock.

Though we are only 18-19 years old, we are relatively experienced when it comes to playing live, due to the fact that Braden and Valentino were 15 at the time of Evershock’s first performance. Our original lineup fell apart soon after, leading to the addition of our drummer James in late 2022 and bassist Thomas in the summer of 2023. Our current lineup has been consistently playing shows in the Orlando area since August of 2023, and we have no plans of slowing down!

Additionally, we’ve started to record and release music within the past year. We’ve released three singles so far, and we hope to release our first full-length album in early 2025. Our music can be found on most major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Check out our new single “Lockjaw”, which was released last Friday on October 18th!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

One of the most important parts of our musical journey in Evershock has been our ability to adapt to a scene which is constantly changing and evolving. Some of the bands that helped us get to where we are today are no longer active. Most of the connections we made in the beginning of our journey were from going to local shows and talking to a band after their set. We recommend that new bands do the same thing. It’s never a bad idea to ask around!

Another important goal that we strive to maintain in Evershock is a close relationship between all four of our members. It’s important to always have each other’s as a band, because there will always be challenges in the future. It’s also necessary for us to stick together when we’re out and about, as we’ve seen some crazy things at shows and areas around venues. We personally feel that we can overcome any obstacle that stands in our band’s way.

Additionally, we strive to keep a close relationship with our fans. We have a small, but loyal fanbase who’s always willing to support us in any way they can. Showing appreciation for our audience is vital to us! We always thank our fans after every set we play, and we recommend new artists do the same.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

We feel that Evershock’s biggest improvement over the past year has been our overall consistency. This includes live performances, social media posting, and releasing music. As a result of this, we’ve made new fans, new friends, and new connections. Our Instagram account has gained over 200 new followers in 2o24, and we hope to see that number grow even more! We know that there’s improvements to be made and lots of work to be done, but we’re extremely proud to see how far we’ve come.
