Meet Melissa “itsmellew” Lewis

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Melissa “itsmellew” Lewis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Melissa “itsmellew” below.

Melissa “itsmellew”, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I love this question! It may sound cliche but my mom. As a single mother, I witnessed her work multiple jobs and still make time for me. She’s always encouraged me to strive for more and supported me during my career change from corporate to hospitality. I think this was the most scared she’s ever been for me! I quit my corporate career that no longer fulfilled me to take on a lead position at a restaurant making $12.55 an hour. Even through that, she helped keep my spirits up and assured me I made the right decision. Fast forward, years later, I’m a GM of a luxury restaurant and 1 year into my influencer page on Instagram. Truthfully, without my mothers guidance and that “you got this” motivation, I’d still be in my old lack of luster career!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Firstly, I was completely taken aback when I received an email to do this interview! I thought, “Me?! This isn’t real!” I’m Melissa, a hospitality professional and new content creator with a lifelong love for fashion, inspired by my mother. As a child, I was always decked out in the coolest outfits—what five-year-old has a pink leather coat in the 90s?

Throughout my life, I’ve been the go-to friend and family member for fashion advice, from shopping dates to curating outfits from their closets.

As a relatively new voice in the fashion space, I’m excited to connect with others and open to brand partnerships. My mission is to help women discover affordable yet stylish pieces that make them feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful. If this resonates with you, I invite you to join me as we embrace our unique styles and shine together!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, I wish I started this entrepreneurial journey sooner! I’m in my 40s and have a bit of imposter syndrome. But believe me, I know I am right where I belong!

My advice is do not enter this journey comparing yourself to others.
1. Be confident and authentic in yourself and your abilities.
2. DON’T GIVE UP! It’s not going to happen overnight. Perseverance is key!
3. Perfect your craft! Get out there, go to events, research style trends. Be creative!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Absolutely! I’m definitely interested in connecting with passionate, creative individuals or brands who represent inclusivity and diversity within the organization as well as the influencers they work with. I’m particularly drawn to projects that embrace diverse voices and perspectives, especially in areas of Black fashion, cultural heritage, and representation.

If you’re a designer, photographer, or brand with a shared vision, I’d love to connect and explore how we can work together to create something unique.
