We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful V.a.d.a. Maverick. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with V.A.D.A. below.
Hi V.A.D.A. , thank you so much for making time for us today. Let’s jump right into a question so many in our community are looking for answers to – how to overcome creativity blocks, writer’s block, etc. We’d love to hear your thoughts or any advice you might have.
I don’t. I just let it take its course because I know it’s not gonna last forever. So once you let it take its course and then, you know, I get past it and then I eventually just start going back to my usual course. Because trying to push through or force it doesn’t feel like it’s naturally flowing. It doesn’t feel like the creativity is naturally flowing. People know if something is rushed or forced. I don’t like to force or rush my material. I like to let it flow. So I just let the block take his course because it’s gonna come whether you like it or not. So just deal with it for short time, and then eventually you’ll get back on course.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I have always been a fan of the music. Before I’m an emcee or a prodcer, I’m always a student and a fan first. I fell in love with hip-hop soon as I heard Run-DMC’s King of Rock in 1985, and I always envisioned me being that person behind the mic. Lyrically, I was influenced by KRS-One, Public Enemy, and Wu-Tang Clan. RZA, Pete Rock, Erick Sermon, Jay Dilla, and DJ Premier are the people that influenced me to learn how to make my own beats. I put out a single entitled “Unorthodox” on October 4. October 25th, I released my EP “Vaughn Artis Da Artist”. December 13th, I will be having an album release party at Miss Ceily’s Blues celebrating the release of my EP.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Discipline, patience, and consistency. Discipline is self control, and if you lose control of yourself there is no room for growth and improvement. Patience because rushing will always lead to undesired results. Haste makes waste. Consistency because when you continue on with your path you will eventually see results. I was once told that a winner is just a loser that refused to give up.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes. I am producer. I am always looking for someone to collaborate with. I wanna work with emcees that have substance in their music. I would love to collaborate with R&B and Neo-Soul singers as well. I can be reached at info@unorthodoxsteeprod.com
