Meet Jhoanna Alba

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jhoanna Alba. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Jhoanna, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I get my work ethic from both my parents. They imigrated from the Philippines in their late 20s. With 4 children to care for, my mother worked as a chemist during the day, and my father worked in the evenings as a night auditor for the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. I witnessed the sacrifices they made for me and my siblings. As a single mother, I strive to instill the same values in my daughter that I grew up with

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Born in Manilla, Philippines, I came to the United States when I was only a year old. Growing up in Los Angeles, my fondness for fashion, sports and entertainment started early. I have been in the fashion industry for over 25 years, catering to high-profile clients in sports, business, and entertainment. With the majority of my clients being men and mastering tailored suits, I decided to branch into our Women’s & Couples Collection. There are more women executives than ever before and more women wearing suits. With LA Fashion Week around the corner, what better time to launch our collection in collaboration with Tanzania. Additionally, I started a repurposed collection with my In Her Purpose family, using remnants from my bespoke collection, named Repurpose Legacy.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were being honest with myself, accepting constructive criticism, and the willingness to change and let go of toxic people.. My advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to stay focus on your common goals and do not let any distractions get in your way. Surround yourself with like-minded people that want to help you grow and succeed. Most importantly, find balance and take care of yourself first!

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

My mother has been the most significant part in helping me overcome challenges and grow my business. She will be 80 years old in February and still runs my company, She is my hero!
