Meet Vicente Hernandez

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Vicente Hernandez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Vicente, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I get my work ethic from my father. He was a Cuban immigrant who taught me how to survive with little. In elementary school I learned how to create with my hands things that would be worth hundreds and thousands of dollars. He taught me how to start my own business in middle school selling candy. At a young age I was shown legal hustling. It engraved in me a anything is possible if you work hard enough and are creative enough mentality.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Talking about myself is probably one of the hardest things in the world. Mostly because I am very much still learning who I am and who God designed me to be. These days I am a husband, father of two beautiful girls, cafe/coffee shop owner, and Christian life coach. I am currently in pursuits of finding out how my life and my businesses are making the world a better place. My cafe is called Together Cafe located in Salisbury, MD. I spend majority of my occupational time managing and stirring this business. It has been an 11 year old answered prayer. When I was 17, I truly believe God inspired me to start a coffee shop. At the time, I was processing the loss of both of my parents through spoken word poetry. With that, I performed at coffee shops and church’s. The idea popped in my head to open a coffee shop where people would feel the love of God. Here we are 16 years later from that original dream with the last 5 years of me running Together Cafe. God is faith! During that time I have spoken with a lot of other dreamers about their vision God put in their heart. More recently, I noticed my entrepreneurial conversations had another career path for me. Over the last few months I have been training to be a certified Christian Life Coach. This October 2024 I will have completed my last course and will be able to professionally coach those I love and many new relationships to come. Aside from that my life is focused on building my family and walking humbly before God.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three main qualities in my life that most benefited me were perseverance, the ability to have hope, and grit. I am a firm believer that God made each of us special. Everyday we are faced with the daunting opportunity to compare ourselves of others. Yet, God made us special the way we are. So my advice is to focus on you and the goals God has placed in side you. Don’t lose hope on what special ideas or dreams you have. Things will be harder than you could’ve imagined but everything will be okay. You are worth not giving up on and you’re worth working hard for.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

My wife and my life coach have been the most essential people in my life in this season. First, my wife because she is my other half. She is me. She helps me see the things I never knew o struggled with and shines a light on areas I never knew where strengths. With out my wife’s love and sharpening I’d be operating and a highly less optimal version of myself. Then secondly my life coach helps me hone in on these new areas I’m self aware of. He helps create a clear path in the chaos of my daily routine.
