Meet Mc Reef

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mc Reef a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

MC, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

Go outside, experience life, and keep that kid inside of you alive! When you trade your imagination in, you lose the ability to remain creative and it becomes a job more than a sense of joy

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am MC Reef, a hip hop music artist born, raised and currently based in NYC! My inspiration for creation are the experiences that I go thru in life. Without those experiences, I don’t know how I’d be able to create the way that I do. My music consists of 3 key elements which are Rhythm, Art and Pain. (R.A.P) Each song I create embodies just one or all 3 elements to give the consumer a full on display of my ability to turn a real life relatable event into a song. Although I am based in NYC I have been consistently traveling overseas to London as well as other states within the USA to expand my reach and continue to grow my audience as an artist. I currently have an album “The Unexpected Vol 3” out right now exclusively on bandcamp.com and even.biz (copy and paste or Google search) both sites are platforms that allow consumers to buy the art directly from the artist at whatever price you wish to pay and allows the artist to build a personal connection with their supporters. My website teamreef.nyc grants full access to my music and media. I also have an Instagram Live exclusive podcast titled “Going Live With The MC” where I have a conversation with other creatives about the journey and lifestyle of these creatives. If you’d like to know more about me or even connect with me, I am avaliable on Instagram and tiktok @itsmcreef and you can watch my visual content on YouTube channels @mcreefmusic & @goinglivewiththemc

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Learning the business side of music, becoming a great performer and networking to make connections I would say all 3 of these are and have been the most impactful and rewarding for me. My advice is
1) stop assuming you aren’t ready. We will never be ready for anything not even death but it’s gonna happen so whenever you get the opportunity you better take it, you never know when or if you’ll get it again!!!

2) Network and ask questions, follow up on these connections, understand your demographic, support others who work as much and as hard as you do, and invest in yourself every single chance you get!!!!

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

My biggest area of growth was realizing that I don’t need to follow a system that’s designed against us. Realizing I didn’t need to play into an algorithm that I already controlled. My biggest area of improvement was learning how to invest and what to invest in when it comes to my career and any decisions that may affect it!
