We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amanda James. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amanda below.
Amanda , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience came from not having an option to be weak. I grew up in a household with not alot of parental guidance, I was the only girl in the house with all boys, They showed me alot of love, but they weren’t easy on me which I appreciate. With their abrasiveness, it taught me how to stand up for myself, and how to be strong in alot of ways. With their love it taught me how I should be treated and not settle for less. Being the only girl with not alot of parental guidance around I had to learn how to protect myself, and not be a push over. All of these things taught me that I can be in my feelings, but not stay in a place where it’s going to keep me down, or stagnant. I had to learn how to accept there was a problem, work it out, and move on. I want to also say even though my parents weren’t perfect, I seen them overcome alot of adversity, which was a good thing to see. I feel like I don’t have a choice to not be able to withstand all trials and tribulations, bumps and bruises, let downs, heartaches and pains that life throws my way. So I want to say it is ok to be sad, cry, and even get mad, but do not let it take you to a place of no return!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I say it all the time, I really love what I do, because it’s what I always wanted to do, when I was a little girl other kids my age was thinking about playing outside, and my mind was on how can I make this shirt look different. I think what makes what I do special, is that it’s a form of art, a way to express myself while helping others do the same just by getting dressed. I love coming up with different designs to put on a shirt, pair of pants, shoes, etc. As a person who loves what they do, it’s always on my mind, so I’m always coming up with a new design for The JG Clothing LLC, Clothing Brand. I want my customers to always have a very fashionable, creative, unique option to choose from. So if you want a Clothing Brand that is here for there customers, it will be The JG Clothing LLC.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Be resilient, whatever you are ambitious about never Give up on it if you feel/ know that it’s what your suppose to be doing. There are ups and downs in everything in life, but not being defeated by those ups and downs is very important.
Be creative, stay true to your creativity but also keep you audience/customers in mind while creating your masterpiece.
When it comes to your business, stand on business, never be in competition with anyone is very important because I think it takes away from focusing on your business and you being at your best, and always be willing to learn.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
This might sound strange to some, but the book of Job in the bible gave me alot of insight on just life in general. I was already a strong minded, passionate, faithful person, but when I read this it gave me an even stronger sense of empowerment when it comes to believing in myself, my faith, how to keep a peace mind in the middle of the storm, not letting anyone interrupt or interfere with my train of thought, when I know I have the right mindset. Helping me to believe in the impossible, even when it does not seem possible, I can go on and on. I just want to say Keep going, keep pushing, keep believing in you no matter what it seems like or no matter what anyone says, if you are doing what’s right never let anyone take your faith away!
