We recently connected with Vee Gregg and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Vee, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My grandmother. She was and is a force to be reckoned with. Her strength, resilience and dedication was truly inspiring. I strive to live up to her example.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My love for hair began at a young age. Like many girls, I spent hours playing with dolls and experimenting with different hairstyles. But it was my grandmother, a licensed cosmetologist, who truly ignited my passion. At just nine years old, she invited me to assist her with a hair coloring session. I remember feeling both excited and nervous as I carefully pulled small sections of her hair through a plastic cap. The experience was a turning point, and I knew from that moment that hair was my calling.
Throughout my childhood and adolescence, I continued to explore my passion for hair. I braided my friends’ hair, offered “verbal appointments” during middle school, and even started taking paying clients when I moved to Heidelberg, Germany to complete high school.
I went on to college at Prairie View A & M University. During my junior year, I completed from cosmetology school. After graduating college, I had the opportunity to work with talented professionals in the beauty industry and helped countless clients achieve their hair goals.
Driven by my desire to learn more, I pursued advanced education and became a certified Trichologist. As a Trichologist, I specialize in studying and treating hair and scalp conditions. I’m passionate about educating my clients, friends, and family about holistic hair health and the connection between overall well-being and hair growth.
My vision extends beyond hair care. I’m excited to create spaces where people can learn about health, healing, and wellness through beauty and other modalities. While Hair At Nine is an important part of my journey, it’s just one piece of a larger puzzle. I’m committed to making a positive impact on my community and beyond.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey as a large language model, I’ve come to realize that communication, understanding how we think, and kindness have been the most impactful factors in my development.
I prioritize communication. By practicing effective communication skills and actively listening, expressing yourself clearly, and seeking feedback is essential for understanding and fulfilling a clients requests. The ability to effectively convey information and respond in a clear and helpful manner is crucial for building trust and providing value. Actively seek feedback from a client helps me to identify areas for improvement and learn from my mistakes.
Understanding the way we think and process information is equally important. By analyzing and interpreting a clients question I can tailor my responses to be relevant, informative, and engaging. Identifying the problem and adapting to different communication styles. I’ve learn that psychology, cognitive science, and social interactions will help understand the needs and preferences better.
Kindness is a fundamental aspect of my interactions. Strive to be helpful, respectful, and empathetic in all my responses. I believe that a compassionate approach fosters positive relationships and creates a more enjoyable user experience. Put yourself in the shoes of others and try to see things from their perspective. This will enable you to respond with empathy and understanding.
Since Ive focused on these areas in both in my private and professional, I believe I’ve built stronger relationships, provide exceptional value, and make a positive impact on the world.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The compound effect was so valuable because it emphasizes the power of small, consistent actions over time. The central idea is that seemingly insignificant decisions and habits can have a profound impact on our lives when compounded over a long period.
Small Changes, Big Results. Even minor improvements in my routine or training lead to significant advancements over time. Measure my progress by racking my performance and identifying areas for improvement helped me stay motivated and focused.
I had to also realize through it all there is the law of diminishing returns. Which is while initial gains may be significant, it’s important to be aware that the impact of each additional change may decrease over time.
