Meet Adrianne Lovato

We were lucky to catch up with Adrianne Lovato recently and have shared our conversation below.

Adrianne , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience ultimately comes from my faith in God and the impeccable example my parents set for my siblings and I. My dad, Adrian (whom I am also named after), is my hero and inspiration. Tragically, my dad passed suddenly & unexpectedly in 2019. This event obliterated me to my core. I honestly didn’t think I would be able to live life without my dad, my hero. In the darkest time of my life, it was my dad’s story and example he set that ultimately pulled me out of a depression I had never experienced. My dad grew up in an abusive household with an an abusive father. My dad lost his two older siblings due to the ways they coped with this abuse. My dad had every excuse to allow his past to dictate his future, but in his wisdom and knowledge, my dad made the intentional decision to break the cycle he grew up in. My dad made a promise to himself and God that he would do things differently. My dad became the loving & faithful husband to my mom that he never saw his dad become. My dad became the selfless & present father to my siblings and I that he only wished he had growing up. My dad not only thrive in his family life, he also thrived career-wise. My dad double-majored & got his masters degree to better himself and set the example of how important getting an education was to him. Due to my dad’s example, I, too, followed in his footsteps and acquired my Bachelors & Masters degrees. My dad always said, “Never be the victim. Never let your past dictate your future.” This is the wisdom I live by every single day. All this to say, it is my dad’s story and example of resilience that is my ultimate source of resilience.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Hello! My name is Adrianne Lovato, I am an actor, screenwriter, & director, and I absolutely love what I do! Honestly, I still have a regular day-job to help “pay the bills,” but ultimately (like every artist) I’d like my art to be the sole source of my income. But until then, I am grateful for the job(s) I have! What excites me the most about film & television is the BTS aspect of it all! I love understanding every facet of the filmmaking process. From lighting to sound to editing, preproduction to postproduction, every single part of the process fascinates me, and I don’t think I will ever get tired of the art behind the filmmaking process!

Creatively, I’ve written my first feature screenplay titled, “The Night Ends.” It is a romantic thriller that was inspired by a vivid dream I had one cold winter night. Longline: When an American grad student seeks to uncover the truth about her missing best friend, she unearths a dark conspiracy that the city of London has concealed for hundreds of years.” This story is meant to be a trilogy, and I am writing the sequel as we speak! This is my “Rocky” movie, so I would definitely be bringing the protagonist to life. And, in a perfect world, Joe Cole (Gangs of London, Peaky Blinders) would bring to life the co-protagonist that I wrote specifically for him. So, Mr. Joe Cole, if you are reading this, feel free to reach out! I’m just shooting my shot – respectfully!

I have also written 3 short screenplays: If You Ever Loved Me; Lay Down Your Wings; and, Not At All. I am currently focusing on bringing “If You Ever Loved Me” to life, and it was inspired by a true crime story that was mentioned in a Ghost Adventures episode. I would absolutely love to bring every screenplay I’ve written to life, so that is my main focus at the moment! I am incredibly overprotective of my artistic visions, so I am very picky when it comes to sharing my art with just anybody. I am currently in the process of compiling the correct individuals to be part of my artistic process. So, if anyone is interested in wanting to come alongside me & help bring my screenplays to life, I am open to it! If you would like to see the visual concepts I’ve come up with for The Night Ends and If You Ever Loved Me, visit my IG page @_adrianne_lovato

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful to me in my journey were (and still are) failure, perseverance, and resilience. Failure has quickly helped me learn what not to do. I used to hate failure, I always wanted to do everything perfect and correct the first time, but as life and loved ones have taught me, sometimes failure is your greatest teacher because that is what sticks out in your mind and forces you to learn & grow. Perseverance has helped me not give up. Yes, there are days where I feel utterly defeated wondering why things are not happening when I want them to happen, but at the end of the day, I trust and believe that everything happens or does not happen for a reason. I trust God’s timing in everything, so I always fall back on perseverance, continuing to push forward, knowing that everything will ultimately work itself out for my good. Lastly, resilience. Resilience has forced me to mature as a person. Losing my dad, my hero, was the ultimate test of my resilience. Experiencing such deep grief, questioning everything I’d every believed, and ultimately coming out on the other end has changed me in every way possible. I now have more love, compassion, understanding, and grace with people. Having to actually put into action the concept of resilience in such a devastating time of my life has shown me that I can ultimately withstand anything with God’s help.

My advice for everyone who are in their early journey would be my dad’s advice to me my entire life, “You’ll never know unless you try. You don’t want to look back and wonder ‘what if?’” These words of wisdom have pushed me not only to move past my fears, but to help me put life into perspective & not allow myself to have any regrets. So in the end, I can always look back and see that I tried, I learned, and I now know the outcome. I would rather know the outcome and know I gave it my all instead of looking back and wondering what would’ve happened if I had just taken the chance and not let fear dictate what I did or did not pursue!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes! I am always looking for persons to partner and collaborate with! Full transparency, I dislike the word “networking.” To me, it implies that you are only getting to know a person for what they can ultimately do for you. I am the type of person who wants to connect and genuinely get to know individuals for who they are instead of what they can do for me. I go into new collaboration relationships with the intention of getting to know the individual on a deep level for who they truly are because that ultimately shows me how an individual will “show up” artistically. I always joke that I am probably doing all this incorrectly, but so far the genuine connections I have made are with authentic persons that I share deep, meaningful, life & artistic conversations with. So it’s actually working out quite well for me!

This leads to my pickiness and standards for who I share my creative process & visions with. For me the sort of persons I am looking to collaborate and connect with are true, genuine, individuals who are just themselves. Persons who do not put on facades and are not afraid to truly be seen. Individuals who are passionate about the art of cinema. Individuals who are passionate about their visions and sticking to them! Individuals who are original, uncompromising, and a bit of a rebel who goes against the status quo and just want to see art come to life! Individuals who love and thrive on the creative process of filmmaking! Those are the individuals I willingly share my creativity with because I truly believe those are the people who will understand me and ultimately understand my artistic vision(s) completely. So if what I am saying resonates with any of you creatives out there, then I encourage you to please reach out to me! Find me on Instagram @_adrianne_lovato, IMDB, or LinkedIn. I truly look forward to genuinely connecting with you!
