Meet Mia Rotella-white

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mia Rotella-white. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mia below.

Hi Mia , you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

As an entrepreneur, there’s often a misconception that you’re only in it for yourself, but that is completely wrong. True success is never achieved by thinking only of yourself. For me, putting others first is always at the forefront of my mind. You have to serve others, and when you do that, success for yourself will naturally follow because you’ve put effort into those around you.

I’ve learned this through my journey as an author and from the influence of my family, particularly my brother Louie. Louie has taught me that generosity is about giving without expecting anything in return, and my parents have always emphasized the importance of serving others, a value rooted in our family’s strong foundation of faith.

As an individual, you have the power to change a life, but as a team, we can change the world. This belief drives everything I do, from the way I approach business to the way I give back to others. It’s about thinking beyond yourself, and that’s where true impact and fulfillment come from.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am proud to say that I am the author of Life with Louie – A Sister’s Story, a book about my brother Louie, who happened to be born with Down syndrome. The story highlights the special bond we share and the valuable lessons I’ve learned from him about love, generosity, and embracing differences. Louie’s story is one of resilience, strength, and the beauty of seeing the world through a different lens.

Advocating for those who are differently abled and encouraging others to recognize their own abilities and strengths is one of my biggest passions. Through my work, I aim to empower individuals to see the potential within themselves and others, knowing that every person has something incredible to offer.

Alongside my book, my most recent endeavor is a coloring book titled Calming Colors: Color by Lou. Inspired by Louie’s love for art and his unique imagination, this coloring book offers both children and adults a chance to tap into their creativity while enjoying a calming and relaxing activity. Louie’s artistic spirit is woven into every page, encouraging people to explore their creativity and embrace the joy that comes from expressing themselves through art.

The coloring book is an extension of the message Louie, and I hope to spread: that everyone, no matter their abilities, can create something beautiful and meaningful. The coloring book is available on Amazon, and I’m excited to see how it brings joy and inspiration to others.

Ultimately, I want to inspire people to positively change the world around them and to offer generosity together. Through giving, supporting one another, and lifting each other up, we can create a lasting impact that makes the world a better place for everyone.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are:

1. Always be open to learning something new every day. There is so much to learn in this world, and it’s important to approach each day with curiosity and a willingness to grow. I used to feel small in rooms where I thought everyone was smarter, stronger, or more capable. But I learned to stay in my own lane and focus on improving my skills, just like everyone else. No one is perfect, and we all have room to grow. Make time to learn, and when you do, pass that knowledge on to others. Teaching what you’ve learned is just as valuable as learning itself.

2. Be hungry. Every day is an opportunity to conquer new challenges. Whether you start with a Bible study, daily reflection, or something positive, make sure to set the tone for your day with intention. Positivity breeds positivity—bring that mindset into everything you do, and watch how it transforms your life. Stay driven and hungry to achieve your goals, no matter how big or small.

3. Confidence. Louie, my brother, has taught me the importance of shining in your own light and being confident in who you are. If you don’t love yourself, you’ll struggle to truly love or give to others. Confidence doesn’t mean being perfect; it means embracing who you are, flaws and all, and allowing yourself to grow from there. Learn to love yourself, and you’ll be able to approach the world with a heart full of generosity and purpose.

For those early in their journey, my advice is simple: stay curious, stay driven, and above all, be confident in who you are. These qualities will carry you through challenges and help you thrive both personally and professionally.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

For anyone who shares my passion for generosity and curiosity, and who is eager to join me on this adventure of advocating for my book, Life with Louie- A Sister’s Story, to be introduced in high schools across the United States, I would love to connect with you! I encourage you to read my book, reflect on its message, and be honest with your thoughts. If it inspires you and ignites a willingness to collaborate, reach out to me. Together, we can spread its message and make a lasting impact on students everywhere. Let’s work together to bring this vision to life!
