We recently connected with Billy Bernal and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Billy , thanks for sitting with us today to chat about topics that are relevant to so many. One of those topics is communication skills, because we live in an age where our ability to communicate effectively can be like a superpower. Can you share how you developed your ability to communicate well?
As a beauty professional, effective communication is crucial for understanding clients’ needs and delivering the desired results. A few ways I developed this skill was by actively listening and paying close attention to clients’ preferences and concerns. This helped build trust with my client and ensured I understood their vision. As an artist you want to give clear explanations the articulating processes, product benefits, and aftercare instructions in a straightforward manner helps clients feel informed and confident that they will be able to take care of the work. I also believe that offering a level of empathy can offer effective communication being empathetic allows you to connect with clients on a personal level, making them feel valued and understood; especially when your working within the realm of beauty. I also think non-verbal que’s help a lot body language, facial expressions, and eye contact all contribute to effective communication and help create a welcoming environment. By honing these skills in particular I believe as a beauty professional I can enhance my client interactions and overall service experience.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I got into the beauty industry out of a lifelong passion for creativity and self-expression. From a young age, I found joy in drawing and being creative, as I got older I loved experimenting with my eyebrows and hairstyles. After completing my education, I decided to pursue this passion professionally by enrolling in a Permanent Makeup program. The experience deepened my understanding of techniques and trends while allowing me to connect with others who share my enthusiasm. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to helping clients feel confident and beautiful, continually learning and growing within this vibrant industry. For those who don’t know I cover all facets of Permanent Beauty I started my journey with just eyebrows but have since expanded to other procedures such as Lip Blush, Scalp Pigmentation, Freckles and Scars.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think one thing we can all remember is that as a professionals we are always learning. There are constantly new trends coming about different looks, techniques and products. I find it best to keep my finger on the pulse. I’ve also learned along the way that practice makes perfect. You can be the best at your craft but if you aren’t keeping your hand and brain warm you will lose your touch, it’s quite the humbling experience. My advice to someone just starting is to always ask questions, don’t be afraid and take and follow as many different Beauty accounts as you can to see what the world around you is interested in, don’t stay within your box.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I have been a true believer in the brand Perma Blend. From the beginning of my PMU career I found them to be the only brand that offered natural looking results over time. What a lot of people do not know is that pigment is different from Tattoo ink. It comes down to the composition * Ink typically made for traditional tattooing, it often contains a variety of synthetic and organic dyes, which can sometimes cause allergic reactions or fade unpredictably over time. Permanent Makeup Pigment: Specifically formulated for cosmetic procedures, these pigments are designed to be safer for the skin and are often made from natural minerals, leading to less risk of irritation and more stable fading. I would love to create a line of organic pigments that are even more natural to offer to the PMU community for even more natural results.
