We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Justine Blanchet a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Justine, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Over time, I got confirmation that I was doing what I was meant to do. I already had the talent, the rest was hard work and perseverance. People were (and are still) telling me I had everything to succeed, I just had to keep going.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a singer/songwriter, I write music and play music live. I also record music that I write with other songwriters. I have been doing that for the last ten years. Music has always been a part of my life, as early as 4 years old.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Knowledge in music is probably the first thing that comes to mind. One can have talent, but knowledge and hard work is key to keep growing. A strong work ethic is also important because it is very telling of your dedication/seriousness. This last one is not always required but it certainly helps. I’d say a business oriented mindset goes a long way. Music is expensive so it’s important to know how to generate a return of investment.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
They gave me a lot of time and financial investment to get me started. I was truly blessed to have that help. I’m not saying it would have been impossible without their help but it certainly would have been harder. They still support me today even if they are less invested.
