Meet Michael .love

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Michael .love. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Michael below.

Michael, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

It didn’t take me a long time to find my purpose. It took me a long time to trust that the purpose i stumbled upon was indeed my own purpose. A lot of people want to be leaders and want fame. So when I had the thought that fame and community was apart of my purpose I had to confirm that it wasn’t a worldly influence that made me think that.

I grew up in church because of my parents and I was always surrounded by community. But one thing that people don’t consider sometimes when they think about church is the artistic influence it can have on someone as well. From music, fashion, and social etiquette. The church was a big push for me to feel comfortable doing what I do now with music and community.

As I grew older i grew more and more away from the church. I started hanging out in places I wouldn’t normally hang out at. I started dating woman that influence me to make decisions that normally would not be my first choice. And I started doubting my ability to be a musician or an artist. Although this misdirection that I placed myself in felt harmful at first. It was the exact thing I needed to happen for me to trust that I was here to be an artist and impact the masses.

Sometimes the only way for you to know where you’re supposed to be is to know where you’re NOT supposed to be.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My name is Michael Silvera also known as Michael.Love. I’m a multidisciplinary artist however my focus is on community and music. I seek to teach the “Hood” how to love and connect again through connecting in person and sharing my story through music and storytelling.

I founded a Non-profit organization called ‘Not 2 Cool 2 Care’ where the focus is threading the needle between different age gaps and social classes so we that we can all learn and grow together. I’ve been inspired to do this by my church upbringing where we would all connect under religion however people would come from all different backgrounds. Through this organization we have put together some beautiful moments such as our Poetry Slam, Jazz nights, workshops, and our fan favorite Cookout.

Music is just important to me as the community organizing because it’s the “Cool” in the ‘Not 2 Cool’. Music is also a way that I get to exist emotionally. In my life I’m usually the leader and or the one who is emotionally sturdy. So music allows me to shed my experiences and also connect with others who may have or still are experiencing the struggles and joys that I am.

Currently I’m working on a project that will be out before my 30th birhtday in December! There’s some real pain on this project and it really takes a deeper look into dating and stoicism. I’m really excited for everyone to hear and experience this one!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

3 skills that most impacted my success are my communication skills, my visual skills, and my fashion sense.

My communication skills are the first! I cannot fit into this interview the power of your tongue and how you talk to yourself and to others. So many opportunities are closed and open without us knowing just from how we talk to people.

Visual skills are important. It’s one thing to have a good idea but to get someone to buy into something most times is depended upon how it is packaged. This skill has helped me make beautiful flyers, decorate events, and curate a social media presence thats organic and wavy.

Fahsion! Most people will judge you before they even talk to you. How you dress communicates a lot! If you feel you’re not fashionably inclined thats okay! Study references of people you think are fly and follow that!

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

The 4 agreements was a very important book for me when it comes to keep my composure. I first read the book in 2017 and it simplified a lot of wisdom I’ve had come across in my life. As I’ve continued to grow the part of the book that said “Always do your best” really was cemented into my brain. Doing my best is a key to my success. I’ve never had to be the best at anything in my life. Just needed to put my best foot forward and God has always matched that energy.
