Meet Andre Kelton

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andre Kelton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Andre, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Well I was raised in a very Blackcentric home. We were always taught to be proud of being Black and our environment was filled with Black representation in music, books arts, and magazines. We saw all the Black movies of the late 6o’s and 70’s and my Father worked hard to instill in his children a high self esteem that began with Black pride

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a Bookstagrammer that offers my thoughts on books I’ve read and wish to spread and highlight their content through book reviews

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Well, passion would be number one. You must be passionate about what you spend your time on, otherwise it becomes like a job. Ability is also a necessary skill, you obviously have to able in your chosen endeavor. And finally consistency in delivering results. I do what I call the Sunday Spotlight and every Sunday I feature a book that I’ve recently read and offer my thoughts about it

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

This may sound strange, but they didn’t indoctrinate us into religion. Subsequently I was not burdened by a stifling belief system that may have stunted my inquisitiveness and my curiosity that allowed me to read widely and fall in love with books

Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?

Culture, economic circumstances, family traditions, local customs and more can often influence us more than

What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?

We think this is an essential question because so often there is a disconnect between
