We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Million Cooper a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Million, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?
May 21st, high school graduation day was one of the worst days of my life. It was all Carmelo Anthony’s fault. As a 5 year old kid growing up in Denver, Colorado, Carmelo Anthony was THE goat. He made basketball look fun. He made basketball look easy. He made me feel like I could be the most famous basketball player in the world. But when high school came around, why didn’t he talk about the anxieties that came with being a kid? Why didn’t he tell me that fear of failure existed. So much so that I allowed anxiety and fear of failure to stop me from trying out for the basketball team. As a kid I thought basketball was in my future. Come graduation, being a loser was my present. I couldn’t even consider myself as a failure, because fear of failing was my past.
As an adult who has graduated from college, and has since become a producer and correspondent for a major market radio station in Atlanta, I am no longer allowing the fear of failure to stop me from attempting. Because in my opinion being a failure is better than being someone who’s never attempted their goals. My names Million, and my new goal, I’m attempting is to interview 1 million people. Even if I failed I will die being happy that I tried.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My names Million. My number one goal is to interview 1 million people. Every interview is counted as one interview to the goal. My current number is 105.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Willingness to learn
Willingness to listen
And consistency
My only advice for content creators is to post!! You learn to make better content from posting and being consistent. You get nothing from holding it.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am looking for other content creators to learn from. In particular content creators that either have more followers than me, and have better consistency and drive than me. Being around greatness makes you great.
