Meet Sally Murphy

We were lucky to catch up with Sally Murphy recently and have shared our conversation below.

Sally , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My faith has always been important to me and has helped me overcome many debilitating challenges in my life.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I love teaching science and inspiring young people to believe in themselves. I incorporate my love of nature and art into my work and am inspired to draw and paint animals and wildlife. I am modest about my drawing but share my work on Facebook and Instagram. I have overcome many odds in my life and want to help other people to know there is always hope to begin again.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I have always been very determined and resilient when faced with obstacles. My faith and spirituality have impacted me along my path, and my hope for a better tomorrow inspires me to keep striving when I feel stymied.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

I have been battling depression and anxiety for most of my life. I feel there is still an incredible amount of stigma and negative associations with mental health issues, and I strive to help reduce the shame people with these issues feel.
