Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Lashae. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jessica, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Every since I can remember, I’ve always been creative. From projects in school to grabbing a pair of kitchen scissors and an old pair of jeans, hand sewing on patches that I made or cutting designs into them, creativity has always played a huge role in my life. As as child, I always wanted to be an pediatrician, well a baby doctor is what I used to call it but as a grew older my passion for that slowly faded away but not my desire to be creative. Once I graduated from school, I took on a few corporate jobs but although I was great at those positions, my heart was never in it. I knew my purpose in life was not to waste my creative skills working for anyone else and not focusing on my strengths. So in 2021, I followed my heart and my passion of starting my business Cut And Pressed, Where Endless Creations Are Made!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I started my business Cut And Pressed LLC in spring of 2021. A single mom of two, raising toddlers, working a 9-5 and building my business at night. I had no idea of what I was doing but I knew I wanted to not only turn my passion into profit but I wanted to do something that was never done in my family before. I wanted to create memorable pieces for people that would make them feel good, I wanted to have more time to spend with my children and most importantly, I wanted to make a difference. My small business is a hand made shop where I make everything custom. From T-Shirts for birthdays, memorials, graduations, other business, Tumblers, Party Favors, Decals, you name it and I can create it. Starting my business Cut And Pressed Where Endless Creations Are Made just felt right, it feels like I’m living in my purpose. Every day I get to do what I love and I’m looking forward to where my passion will lead me.
With being an entrepreneur for almost 4 years now, my focus is to continue growing and helping future or current entrepreneurs with their craft business journey. I have held 4 hands on classes teaching other creatives how to start their craft business with my most recent class just being October 26th and I will have a lot more classes coming in the early new year!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back on my journey there are 3 qualities that were most impactful being; Patience, Compassion and Hard Work
Patience because Cut And Pressed started as just a dream and I was trying to take this dream and build this new business from the ground up with no prior experience. I knew I wanted my business to be big and for it to be great I had to have patience and let it grow.
Compassion because I started my business wanting to create memorable pieces for customers for their weddings, birthday parties, graduations and even their memorial services. Each occasion holding different emotions which when dealing with people having compassion for their feelings will go very far.
Hard Work because what is success without hard work? I’m so passionate and dedicated about not only having my own business but having a successful business so with building something great will always require working hard.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I am feeling overwhelmed, I remind myself to focus on the now. With being an entrepreneur we have to wear so many different hats and along with me being a mom of 4 as well as a wife, life gets very chaotic and overwhelming. My strategy is just to prioritize whats currently important and schedule out the rest of the tasks that way I’m not just looking at a long to do list. Also, as a mom, wife and business owner I tend to focus on the needs of others before myself but I cannot give the best version of myself if I am not taking care of myself. So, if I can give any advise that would be to take care of yourself by eating healthy and regularly as well as exercising, drinking plenty of water and getting plenty of rest. Once you take care of yourself you will see how much easier it is to give the best version of you.
